hi guys

so i did the acc valve cleaning DIY but when i started the car and took it for a drive my air fuel gauge doesn't read properly. it sits on lean and stays there. if i give the accelerator i quick stab it flicks to rick then straight to lean WTF.

before the DIY id start the car and the needle would slowly rise up from lean to rich and after its warms up (3 minutes) it works as it should, bouncing all around the place in response to putting my foot on the gas.

could it be due to a hose leak or something??? something else i have noticed but its probably irrelevant is that my viper alarm systems remote start and turbo timer also doesn't work but i can still use the remote to lock/unlock the doors.

i didnt install the viper alarm or air fuel gauge so i dont know how its setup.

hi thanks for the comment but its a drift air/fuel gauge it i think it just plugs into the ecu

do you know where the sensor is located???

Or the cleaner you used in the AAC valve has killed the narrown band sensor you have. Pretty potent stuff and not un common to happen

nah the car is running as normal. it could be coincidence that the gauge shits itself but its pritty unlikely. its so strange its almost like the gauge is reading in reverse cuz before its would read normal to rich and now its always full lean and on gear changes flicks to rich then back to lean.

im scared that it really is running lean and im gunna blow it

if you had a vac leak the car would be running like shit afterwards. whats it running like, small vac leak would be most evident at idle?

The ECU gets its feedback from the sensor which is in the exhaust, Carby cleaner etc can be very potent and easily damage delicate oxygen sensors. Hell it eats rubber seals around throttle bodies its know to kill sensors so id be starting there if its only happened since you did the clean out

yeah after some more investigations i think the o2 sensor is dead which is ok cuz i hafta put my 3" dump pipe on this week does anyone have one or know where i can get one from. i have called two different autobarns and they said they would hafta order it in at $130 does this sound right???

the car is running ok but i hafta drive 70k to work everyday this week, is it going to do any major damage????

If you managed to get car-b-cleaner on the O2 sensor while doing a AAC valve clean, then you should give up any pretentions to becoming a mechanic!

ashr32, did you reset the AAC after you reassembled it? I suspect you have a small leak somewhere - split hose or similar. It will be OK to drive it in it's "slightly lean" condition, just avoid any serious boost until you work out the answer.

the gauge is all good after driving about 20k to work today is started working again. i guess it was just the residual carby cleaner on the acc valve giving the o2 sensor a strange reading.

Also remember if an O2 gets to rich it displays as lean. as you can see on cars with launch control and some anti lag systems that dump fuel out, the gauge reads lean, when in fact its covered with raw fuel.

Realy? never tried cleaning it, it always comes right after hitting 3rd gear when i use my launch control,

My WB sensors seem to last quite a while before they go lazy, but it seems that the dye in the meth I use causes more of the problem than the rarely used launch control.

Generally if your having 02 issues (this is from my Honda days here) then cleaning the O2 sensor with a lighter ususally cleared them up, and if not then the sensor was more than likely faulty, or there was a bigger issue. They sometimes just get really clogged up, i can imagain moreso in a Skyline.

Wouldnt reccommend using any sort of fluid tho
