I have roadside assist and have used it mainly for towing. I signed up once when I needed a tow and have used it another time after that.

Not sure how good the mechanics are at diagnosing problems on the spot though...

How many others have roadside assist? Do you find it useful?

I decided to get rid of my road side assist.

Figured i was better off trying to fix it myself.

Plus i found unless i was fully covered with the best cover i would only get towed to certain locations.

Its good for simple things though depending on your mechanical knowledge and if u can be assed changing a tire or not :(

I have a full road side assist. I can also go into my mates car and have RACV come and pick us up.

Same as me. I have never needed it with my car and needed it once before on another car so from a cost point of view, it certainly hasnt paid for itself but is piece of mind.

Remember those with 4wd's to notify RACV as they need to know for sending a flatbed and not a truck that just lifts the front wheels (technical name escapes me, Jack will know :( )

I used to have it years and years ago.

I found that the mechanics seemed to have rather basic knowledge/tools so this kind of cover would be best suited to you if you drove an older, simpler car.

As for the towing, i had to use it once and wasn't impressed. Waited 45min for the RACV mech to come and and say "Yep, she's buggered, need a tow." ...then had to wait another 1 1/2 for the tow truck :( . In the end i figured that i'd keep my yearly $70 odd and just call a tow truck straight up in the one off chance its needed.

I Got It So When My Car Breaks Down In Sydney Or It Snaps A Drive Shaft Coming Out Of The Winton "Car Park"! I Get It Towed Home 4 Free! :(

Still Havnt Needed It, But Worth Its Wait In Gold If Something Does Go Wrong!

Remember those with 4wd's to notify RACV as they need to know for sending a flatbed and not a truck that just lifts the front wheels (technical name escapes me, Jack will know  )

Correct Alan, its called a wheel lift..

Although these days 99% of the trucks are tilt trays, so you shouldn't have this problem..

As far as getting lowered imports with bodykits, well that's a different story!!!

In my opinion RACV membership is handy for when you get a flat tyre and can't be assed changing it, flat battery and also when you lock your keys in your car. If you own a car that is quite low and/or has an aftermarket bodykit, there may be issues. Have heard of too many ugly stories...

one of the towies who came to tow my car had extender ramps for the end of his tilt tray to flatten the usually steep incline of the flatbed.

i think that unless your car is really super low, with some care they shouldn't have an issue getting your car up onto the flatbed.

i also have a low mechanical knowledge and 95% of the time can't diagnose a problem unless it's jumping out at me...

Yeah i have RACV membership, have had it for 7 years or so. Ive used it twice.

First time i ran out of fuel (didnt realise my r31 didnt have a low fuel warning light). Waited an hour and they still hadnt shown up, so by that time my dad had come and dropped off some fuel.

Second time my car wouldnt start outside my house, nothing to do with a flat battery (Already tried jumping it)

They took about 2 hours to get there, then claimed they had sent 2 cars in the meantime and neither had seen me. (even though i had told them it was right outside my house in the driveway and therefore i would be sitting inside and for them to phone me on either my home phone or mobile when they got there)

So not very impressed...

I mainly keep it going because i like seeing the years as a member on the little keyring thing go up. stupid hey.

Occasionally.. and I mean on the very rare occasion.. you might get a real mechanic come to you in an RACV truck.. but usually if it's not a jump start/change of battery or a flat tyre (or keys like Jack said!).. they just say 'you need a tow'... they usually know less than me about the car (esp imports) or problem and I'm a girl! They're not willing to spend more than 5mins on it either.

Even though you just waited 40mins for them to turn up and it's another 20/30 for a tow truck.

So why bother, it costs more to join up to RACV than get a JagR33 tow home!!

Last time I needed a tow, I rang Jack and he was there during peak hour in 20mins! Noice!

And yeh most RACV towies have no idea about frontbars.

Ive got RACV Free2Go

http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/Free2go/Primary/home

free2go membership includes:

* Emergency roadside assistance.

Anyone aged 18 years or in Year 12 will be covered for emergency roadside assistance (Roadside Care) in any car they drive, or are a passenger in. And what’s more, it’s free - no catches or contracts.

Anyone aged 19 or 20 years will receive Roadside Care in a nominated vehicle at half the normal price. And if you’re 19 or 20 and don’t require Roadside Care, then you can still be a member and access all the other benefits free!

Its cheaper for us P-Platers so why not get it

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
