Brake Fluid Overflow After Changing Pads?

Hey guys, i went to check my brake fluid level today as i just replaced both front/rear pads for my r33 gtst, and found that the fluid was right at the top of the reservoir, and i think i saw traces ov it being spilt!.What could cause this to happen?and how to i get it fixed?

been searching the forums, and the diy thread on changing brake pads never mentioned bleeding the brakes at the same time, which i think i was meant to do, could i have cause serious damage to my cylinder now?as i didnt take off the nipple, or the master cylinder cap when pulling back the pistons on the caliper.

Did you take off the cap on the reservoir before you took the pads out?

When you push back the pistons on the calipers it forces the fluid back up the lines hense over filling in the reservoir.

Give the area where it spilt a massive wash with water. It wrecks paint.

Didnt take the cap off when replacing the brakes, and i dont think it overflowed, but its way over max on the reservoir at the moment ......

and no, i didnt top up the brake fluid.

I undo the bleeder when i'm pushing the pistons back, for the reason you just encountered, and because i dont like the idea of pushing old fluid back into the system. I'd rather add new fluid to the master when i'm pumping it back up. It should be ok tho, just bleed it now, pump it up with the pedal and drive carefully until the pads bed in.

Yeah just wash the spilled fluid off the engine bay (but dont get any on the master)
