Hi All,

Im building up a r32 gtr as a track race rally car.

I am going to enter it into events like the dutton targa so forth i just want to know what track events it can be run in??

I was flicking through this part of the forum and the old gibson motors sport 32 is running in a historic event with the 31's what is involved in that event?

Is there anything like the old group c that they did run in?

Can anyone help just so i can build the car up in a certain way?

Thanks David

Where is Berwick?

There are a couple of choices these days

Duttons and lots of club events - no rules as long as it is road registered. giant's gtr for instance has over 400 at the wheels but is still legal. Almost all the Vic guys race this way.

AMRS run events in vic, qld and nsw (some tracks only), they have very open rules. r33 racer and stupid toyota are racing in qld

With CAMS (most motorsport events) you can run in 2A (Production Sports Cars), 3E (Production Touring Cars), 3J (Improved Production) or 3D (Sports Sdedans)

Tarmac Rally / Targa regs are very similar to 3E. Common in Tassie

WA has a class called street sedans(?) which allows quite a few mods, like 3J without the inlet restrictor (thank god)

The Group A/C Historics is only open to cars with a genuine group A or C log book

So there are some options....need to know more about what sort of track car you want and what your budget is....but 90% you will just want to pick the first option

Thanks Duncan,

We are building near the Berwick Costelos.

Thanks for the info.

i will most likely start with the dutton etc and build up from there i seen you had the Bathurst hill sprint that sound very interesting what is involved in that??

I checked out the amrs site there is some good racing going on there that looks very good i sent off an email to get some specs on it.

Are you doing any form or racing?

    • I really don't understand the point of aftermarket oil pumps if your particular engine doesn't need more oil pressure. As far as I can make sense of it the problem seems to be cavitation from sucking air, maybe the pump gear design with how it interfaces with the OEM crank, and maybe the backing plate screws wanting to loosen themselves. How does flowing more oil fix these issues?
    • More photos are up, and the price has been dropped to $16,000. It's just had a service and a new 12V battery, too.
    • I agree on doing some better than factory pistons, rods, and oil pump. For anyone using the vehicle on the road, I don't get why everyone wants big cams. The stock cam profile, with some more lift would be mint for road usage. Everyone going big cams and then wondering why it isn't as responsive in traffic, when they've shifted the torque curve upwards an additional 1000RPM. Make torque, at lower RPM. Sure it's not as cool as claiming "500KW" and revving it to 8,0000RPM, but that same torque 2,000RPM earlier... Then you don't need the extremely high end pistons and rods, and blah blah blah.
    • Personal experience. Those f**kers burn. And are actually a PITA to put out. Next time I walk down the back, I'll snap a photo of what the inside of the bonnet looks like when that thing ignites. PS, powder fire extinguishers are useless on that stuff too as it's fibrous and when it ignites, it starts to pull apart. And you end up just blowing powder through a sieve effectively.   Like the big thing is, if it's fire resistant, it's job is to stop what burning? The METAL above it? It's just to try keep heat off the bonnet paint work.
