yup...he showed me the form cos he didnt want me to think he was making excuses!

This was in a VT commodore, tidy enough looking with rims. The problem is that 80% of the installs we do would be in commodores, so if they start defecting and crushing them then whats that going to do to our turnover?

Cheers guys! One step closer to 30!

Be interesting to see how many killer wasps Morpowa get out of the 33! And Damo, told them to get a really good cold start tune happening as leaving home around 5:30-6am these days!

And Ben that sucks to hear, it will have a big affect on small business. Everyone will be to scared to even lower their car or put a sports exhaust on!

So Dave you reckon Kristian can do a bulk buy on Yugo's then?

shit. that sucks.

this is where you need to start talking to local members... repeatedly. im going in to have a word with mine on my next day off.

Is that 5mm lower than stock ... or 5mm lower than the lowest legal height?

?

I keep my suspension 10-15mm above the lowest legal height ... just to be sure.

Not sure Roo, just stated rear suspension 5mm to low

ditch a couple maccas wrappers, take a bottle of water out, laughin.

he rekons he said to the cop "if i took my stuff out the boot that would bring it up enough" and the cop said to him that that wouldnt be necessary.

Now, he got done for a few other things, so i dont know if the cop meant, "that wont be necessary, im defecting you anyway for other stuff", or "that wont be necessary, i dont really care".

Thats the problem. You're in the northern suburbs where every idiot drives a "fully sik" Commonwhore

and the majority of his customer base is these idiots in "fully sik" commodores. this could be a problem, and i imagine would cause a great deal of concern, both for the "idiot" and bens customers.

yes. i realise the sarcasm in your post.

Yeah thats true, and as much as im not a fan of holdens or there usual fully sick owners, they still buy $3000 stereo's for the $500 beaters cos they like the doof doof. If all of a sudden they cant drive the $500 beaters, then they will be forced to buy a later model beater, which generally wouldnt leave them with the cash left over to do a stereo. So the idea of car crushing will have more implications that just effecting the owner of the car.

I was speaking to my mechanic the other day, he is now having to seek legal advice about getting customers to sign stat decs about them requesting modifications that could be deemed illegal because the new laws are trying to put the responsibility back onto the mechanics fitting these modifications. So now he will be effected aswell because there will likely be a down turn in performance modifications which is a large part of his business.

I dont think the government has put enough thought into this.... there just worried about looking popular to the older generation so they want to look like they are doing something... but do they not realise they are alienating a huge section of there voters... ie particularly car enthusiasts in the 18-35ish age bracket??

i agree wih you ben when you say that you dont think the government has thought enough into it, i guess its like with most things they do - they dont think about the whole picture, just what they wanna see i guess.

hmm, good point ben. i havent even thought of the new laws in that respect yet.

as for alienating 18-35 car enthusiast bracket... well, hopefully he doesnt figure that out until its too late, and by then were voting in someone who might notice.

if not... im moving. lol.

But at the same time, members here are whinging about cops defecting the real shitboxes and cheap buckets, and leaving the imports alone. I'd like nothing better than to see rusted crapodores off the road. They'll still find the money Ben for doof-doof. Its all in the needs and wants.

I could go into the economics of this ... but I won't

Sorry to change the subject here peeps, but I didnt think it was worth starting a new thread.

I know of a set of Work VSXX's for a pretty good price, they are 17X8&9, +35 Offset, taken off of a Z32 300ZX. Are they likely to fit a R32 GTST without hitting anything or being excessively over track? The whole offset thing confuses me lol

they should sit pretty good dion, might need to run something like a 5mm slip on spacer up front, but you can get those from most tyre joints for nix.

they in adelaide? cant test fit before purchase?

as for the offset thing, its pretty simple. it refers to where the mounting surface of the wheel sits in relation to the edges of the wheel.

smack bang in the centre is +/- 0 offset (neutral).

when you move it from the centre towards the outside edge of the wheel its + offset.

when you move it from the centre towards the inside of the wheel its -offset.

I have no problem with obvious shit boxes being defected, to an extent it needs to be done as alot are unsafe, however, it still doesnt change the fact that it will no doubt effect business' in the auto aimed industry.

The main problem will be cars of some value being crushed, leaving the owners out of pocket, alot of which couldnt go out the next day and buy another car. I imagine with car crushing, they will impound the car and book it in for a date to be crushed, but i dont think there will be any opportunity for owners to retrieve any items from the car as they wont want people taking off illegal mods and keeping them for the next car. In some instances that could work in our favour because it will mean people will have to buy new stereo's, BUT, thats only IF they have the money too.

Im sure you can see the basic point im getting at though.

And i would be happy for sapol to concentrate on the commodores and leave imports alone, but you and i both know that wont happen. What i figure is that they will start with the most obvious cars and work through offenders, but as things start to clean up i imagine they will start to look at the less obvious cars.

Really if anything trying to put the blame back onto mechanics and workshops will have a negative effect. More people will buy the parts then fit them the best they can, hence making the vehicle more unsafe by not following instructions or getting the right torque settings on bolts.

And Ruby and Pete make good points too, the safer a car is made the more higher the likely hood of the driver pushing it that little bit harder.

As i have heard somewhere before, i can't wait to see the shitstorm after they crush a car that has been wrongfully impounded!

oh and Dave, seeing as you have converted to Russian, is this your new ride?

<awesome car>

nope. i went for the serbian equivalent. my mother country has outsourced.

i drive a zastava koral now.
