Damo,

What turbos are you talking about?

Yeah the stock turbos can handle it but I just dont trust ceramic ;) plus never know how long they have been on there for and what sort of life they have had??

Chad bought some turbos from America, i think they are 2860's, like over a month ago, still hasn't got them, apparently the company is still waiting on gaskets.

Joel's car came from Ben and Nene, so there's no doubt those turbos have been looked after :) . I agree with not trusting ceramic, but i was under the impression that GTR's could handle about 16psi on stock turbos?

Check the numbers on the turbo..but could be N1 spec or have been steel wheel in standard housing in japan like mine ;)

i havent even really looked at em, had em sitting in a box in my shed for the last month or so lol. i'll go have a look over and google. cheers :)

Hmm might be the same ones I am looking at getting from ;)

Well I would be worried with putting 1bar through ceramic turbos, especially if you dont know the age or the life of them..

I think most only reccomend up to 1bar 14psi on stock turbos but its only really a matter of time :) Not trying to scare you Joel!

See if you can find a magnet and see if it will magnetic (spelling) to teh exhaust wheel..Want to see if it works for you..

haha thats ok jess ;)

i knew making mods to the GTR was going to be costly but i was hoping there would be some things i could do before changing up the turbo lol. by the looks of it i dont have much of a choice lol

so there is no way to change the ceramic wheels out for steel wheels? worth the time and effort?

Damo did Ben buy that gtr direct from nissan 20 year ago ;) no one knows the treatment joel's turbo's have had

sure whilst in Ben's care it's had a good life but thats no indication of anything

im sure for the price Chad is saying Garret australia could of done the same deal

Joel i would say do your support mods first and leave the boost where it is once you get inj. And fuel pump then probably a fuel reg. then get your turbo's and you know your engine wont detonate because you have fuel get coil packs too

haha thats ok jess :)

aww yeah but loads of fun and rewarding..but see if you got turbos first wouldnt need the other mods till later cause will have more boost running through the car and more power straight up..

Yes there is but cost about $1k each..cause I have looked into doing it myself but not not worth it when can buy two new garrets for $2160 delivered.. Whats the place in Adelaide that does turbos on south side...go have a chat and get a price ? I only know the Sydney places ;)

yeh his dad did, then he passed it down to Ben. ;)

well pull the intake pipes off and have a look around, or take it to a mechanic and get him to tell you how good/bad/dead they are.

how many k's has it done Joel? Not that kilometres travelled will relate to condition of the turbo, but i better say it in case Steve does ;)

Well if your gonna get turbos, don't buy them from America ;) . speak to Chad, Madaz and Heslo about turbo upgrades for your GTR

Yeah, just wait till heslo gets his new turbos!! coz about a week after hell get hit by an old gran and his car will be written off by insurance again!! =D

its got a nissmo dash (24xxx) but before that was installed the clock was on 60xxx around there.

but ben said when he bought it his mechanic checked out the turbos and they looked to be in good condition ;)

steve - yeh thems were my thoughts, ill be putting in a 040 this weekend and i was going to do the injector/fuel rail and regulator after. im swapping the spitfire packs out of my GTS-t in to my GTR this weekend as well. should get some good sparks/fuel pressure from that.

Im pretty sure the fuel pump will be shagged because b4 i saw you guys at the villies on sat night i had to change the fuel filter lol. ran the tank near empty and has some fuel issues >.<

nothing like working on your car at 8:30pm in the rain...

Yeah add front pipe and dumps and you will laughing ;)

I agree, if you don’t know the treatment the turbos have had it’s a bit of a risk. Have you checked the front wheels for any play? That’s a good indication of what condition they are in.

I had a Rb20 in my old r31. I was running 14psi through the stock turbo, six months later the turbo is still in good condition.

How is your GTR going Fishy?

Hey Jess,

Sorry i missed you Saturday night a villies!! =( i came by, but it was too late and everyone had left or was leaving

Car is good, just trying to finalise all the upgrades/service/mods im looking to do to it.

Crank collar looks like its going to be WAY too expensive, so its looking like N1 pump + improved pickup (the boostworx mod i was talking about) + sump baffel + Cam Cover Baffle Plate and i already have catch can(s)

then im also looking at suspension upgrade, boost controller, cam gears and 100,000km service. so just a little bit of work on the car =)

dont you just love tax time?? =D

    • Throwing my spoon to the soup here a bit.  When I installed a 044 back in 2012, along with the direct power mod, the car became very difficult to start. To a point I burned one starter motor as I was late for work and tried to get the thing going. With some tuning and careful use of gas pedal when cranking it became bearable. Trying to make this short as possible, but the 044 died after 2-3 years, after which I went with an AEM 320lph pump, which also died after about 4 years to my dismay. After that I went with a Nismo pump, and while trying diagnose an emissions problem, I noticed for the first time that my fuel pressure was 5bar/72psi on idle, and that removing the vacuum line did nothing. After monitoring the situation, and removing the direct power feed and going back to FPCM in attempts to remedy it, I noticed there was fuel in the pressure regulator vac line. Kept the FPCM, installed AEM external regu and the car became sooo much better in every way, including starting. And I had driven it like it was for 11 years.. Anyway, I agree these are likely two different problems, and the FP problem you just haven't noticed before. I do not know much about haltecs, but what first came to mind was the CAS, which probably is not there any more. So how is the wiring from haltec to gauge cluster? How is the battery voltage and alternator?
    • Your car was auto before? You have different diff ratio (auto vs manual i think? or n/a and turbo?)
    • +1 for getting a screen off alibaba, CarPlay/Android Auto is vastly better than whatever navigation cars had 10 years ago. I got an Android screen for my 2015 BMW, huge difference. Fully compatible with factory stuff including iDrive controls.
