Confirmed by Bill at ATS. Turbo is definitely rooted. Needs a rebuild. Taking the Stagea off the road for the turbo. :P

While I'm at it, I'll get the front bumper painted and the brakes calipers swapped. :D

did you get a rebuild quote ruby? what parts are included?

$1800 to rebuild my current turbo with new core and turbine housing better matched/machined for my car.

$2200 for a 3071 built for my car specifically.

or

$150 - $300 to go back to a stock turbo.

or

$1300 approx for a second hand 2530 setup.

$1450 for new GT3071R from CRD.

wow 1800 to rebuild? seems the old 2530 setup is the go, i saw that for sale, only 3000k's IIRC.

Yeah well I have a house extension to pay for, so I don't really want to spend $1800. My budget is more like $1200. If it had failed say 2 months ago, I'd have easily spent the money then.

If someone buys my S1 Stagea this week, I'll then have the money for a proper rebuilt/new turbo. :D

Stimulus Info...

This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?

A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?

A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?

A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?

A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?

A. Shut up.

I'm saying it'd be around 3k to rebuild my twin turbo's and steel wheel them!! :D

Ruby, can you take the car there or do you have to take off the turbo and take just the turbo there?

taking the turbo off yourself and taking it there will save

a shitload, obviously.

i dare say the 1800 just covers the re-build only

Yeah, thats with me taking turbos off myself and delivering them.

Hey guys, I'm looking at a few Skylines at the moment. Here's one I'm quite interested in.

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/privat...id=11E6C1973ECE

The owner said he'd go down to $12.5k if I purchased it. I've taken it on 2 test drives, and I am quite interested in buying it. What do you guys think? Except for a Regency check, what other checks should I do?

Bomex kit looks quite different. Judging by the engine bay quality, he's taken more interest in the body rather than the engine! Checked for rust, oil leaks, etc?

What's the Regency check?

There was no rust or oil leaks from what I saw.

The Regency check would be the compliance check.

    • I'm still not sure what you are trying to acheive, but I wanted to clarify something about Lithium's response to your question...   Only within certain limits. All of the examples Lithium gave were of detuning for a particular reason. Before the engine/turbo/wastegate combination has hit full boost, you can't increase it....the wastegate is shut and the turbo is pushing as hard as it can Once the combination has hit the target (controlled) boost, you generally have full control over whether it makes more or less boost, because it is being limited/reduced from its potential. This is generally done by controlling the wastegate In the top end, with an undersized turbo, it is possible you won't get to your target boost anymore if the turbo is choking up. In this case you cannot increase boost any more without changing the setup. No change in cost compared to any decent build, other than tuning time to get the engine to make less power than it is able to at a certain point
    • Welcome.  Glad to hear that you have gained some knowledge that has helped you. I believe the only fix for the power steer belt is an electric conversion with a Holden astra pump. If you get a chance, post pics of your car, please. 🙂
    • Just ordered those bosses, hopefully that does the trick thank you very much everyone for your replies it's really appreciated
    • to have this type of adjustment possible with a curve as I wish, what budget (engine) should be planned?
