Removing Brake Dust Covers

Got a track day coming up and many people have recommended removing the dust covers off of my brakes to allow more air to flow onto and cool the rotors. Now I had a quick look the other day and didnt seem to see an easy way me getting them off, anybody got any tips/suggestions?

I just did this on the weekend, and learnt the hard way what the easiest method is

Remove the wheel, remove the brake caliper, remove the brake disc. This should give you full access to the dust cover. Now beg/borrow/steal a small grinder with a metal cutting disc, a few sparks later it will be done

Haha, that's a way that I thought but wasn't sure if such butchery was recommended Any other ideas or is this the best way?

The only other way is to take the whole hub assembly apart and I wouldn't recommend that.

Trust me, this is alot easier than trying to do it with the calipers on like I tried first off

It will definately help, especially if your getting brake fade during the track work. Also couple it with some brake ducting

on the GTR they were aluminium and i got a good set of snips and cut it through...after removing the rotor.

With a good set of tin-snips would be ok, but the china tin-snips from Bunnings are no good. The cutting disk is the easier option if you can borrow one.

Well looks like it's the way to go then, gonna have to borrow an angle grinder and cut them while I change over my rotors... cheers boys

I'm pretty damn sure my 32 GTR ones were alloy. well at least the hubs are alloy. and as tacker said, the easiest way is caliper and rotor off, snips out. snip snip snip and bob's your uncle.

bodgey.i was looking at it the other day and it was a bit dark at the time and i thought there was somthing up when i couldnt find any bolts to just unbolt it.

Yeah, it seems to be part of the hub assembly, so no easy way to get it out without cutting it.

use to get brake fade but after running RBF600 fluid with Ferodo DC2500s its all good - amazing pads!!

I guess I assumed he was already using good pads and fluid, but if not then do as Zennon suggests. I use the RBF600 and Pagid Blues, but any similar combination will work well.

Already running some decent pads and I'm using the Motul RBF600 fluid, just want to keep the rotors as cool as I can
