I went down to an Import Wreaker the other day and was going to buy a VG30 to fit onto my RB20Det motor. However when i was there they were dismantling a tommy R33. So i looked at it and found it has a different turbo to the norm.... So i bought it along with the spagetti extractors and internal "tommy race gate". This turbo has been inspected by a turbo pro and it has the following;

1. Steel blades

2. BB

3. Different wastegate release valve

4. Twin blades

5. Bigger oil/water lines

6. Different out put pipe (as to a standard gts-t)

But the wierd thing is it is baged as a NISSAN turbo....

However it has a "tommy race gate"

Is it either someting very different

or

Is it just standard but with a different wastegate....

Photo is included bellow...

I am fitting it on Tuesday 24/6 so i will post how it works out.

The exhaust is has to be modified on the 25th so hopefully it will be back together that night... and driving....

Reason for conversion the T3/4 i have now is too large and has massive lag... I suggest to anyone who wants a T3/4 on an Rb20det think agian... I spent too much on mine and was dissapointed in is performance....

Anyways ill be selling it soon... Has only done 14,000k's

Will suit a VL perfectlly or RB25

Anyways i will post again on wednesday...

Cheers

Well guys... I have a smile from ear to ear

The turbo conversion is over. And boy does it go....

However im having trouble controlling the boost my bleed valve when screwedf all the way in is still producing 20+psi... (Cant tell cause my gadge only goes to 20psi...) Anyways ill sort that one tommorrow... So i drove it around tonight half pedal all the time...

She is spooling at like 2400rpm and hits like a car up the arse at 2900rpm then its hang on while the wheels find their step all the way to 8000rpm... I recon with out a doubt its over the 250rwkw by now.... I can believe it..... The tyres just fried when i smacked 3rd at 5000rpm with 14psi.... The spedo reads 140kpk however im doing about 40kph.... Its a weapon now... Will need to srt out the boost tommorrow...

Anyways it took about 6 hours go to whoa. The oil lines matched up perfectlly. However the water line inputs on the turbo from the R33 have a different thread. So we used the supplied R33 water lines... What a bastard to get that rear one.... HEHEHE

The exhaust was a different issue... But that will be corrected in the morning as well.... The intercooler piping needs a little attention as well, as they didnt match up due to the 2.5" output from the turbo going into 2" intercooler piping... So all in all a head scratcher but were there.... Plus i cought a WRX so im happy.... He smaked off the line 4x4 style and i passed him at 17psi through 2nd... One night of over boost wont hurt... HEHEHE

Anyway check out the 4 sale section for the parts i didnt use and the old parts im selling....

Sweet

    • To be fair passengers who aren't silly and have been in proper fast cars have often been pretty impressed once you hit 4th gear
    • I suppose that's true. Barring almost any situation, I'll never sell so what the market does is kind of irrelevant to me. It's possible I'd make most of my money back. That spreadsheet I mentioned? Maybe I could make back more than what the car's total costs thus far are, but the parts and all that is possibly a different story... Thanks for reading. It was certainly a good moment and just makes the ties to the car that much stronger. It's exciting that the option will be there to bring it over, however I have some plans with a shop that may end up keeping the car there longer, not sure. Coupled with the fact I want to move there and haven't solidified any path yet. So in a way, it feels like I'm in a limbo state that is uncertain; time will tell.
    • No worries, everything worked out in the end. I just wanted to make the point that it doesn't matter where it comes from (I.E Australia), it can be broken or improperly built. I would still purchase from these companies in the future. B2R - Not certain how that finished, this was on a car I wired a few things and street tuned. I know the owner ended up shipping the motor back to Australia for investigation. Hopefully some of it is covered under warranty.  Turbosmart - I always pressure test everything that goes on my car. It's a habit from my career in oil and gas. I run two 40mm's and both had major leaks from the actuator to exhaust portion through the shaft. I returned both, they shipped me back two and one was leaking and the other had a 38mm top (40mm gate with 38mm actuator cap, no idea how that happens). Eventually after a lot of back and forth I found myself with two non-leaking gates. I believe this happens a lot more then people would like to believe but you would never know if you don't pressure test them prior to installation. Crank Motorsport - Issued a full refund and let me keep the seat rails. I turned them into scrap metal for other projects. GKTech - Shipped me out a replacement and asked that I modify it as per my idea and that they would do the same for a future revision. ATP - Can just needed a large shim to bolt up properly.  Haltech - They started an actual proper Beta channel for firmware's a few months back and stopped using the general public for testing. I'm now much happier.  Speedtek - f**k Speedtek. I would love to watch them burn.
    • I've got a Turbosmart wastegate, ATP catch can, many GK Tech parts and Haltech everything. Everything's been perfect, sorry to hear your experience wasn't the same
