nuffsaid
Hi all I noticed that the tread or rubber feels harder after a recent track day The tyres got pretty hot I think and felt greasy, and it was getting smudged all over the place such that I was getting rubber piles built up on the tyre (maybe i also picked up rubber off the track) Is this a bad thing if the tyres feel like they are harder than before? grip seems to have dimished some what, maybe its just the tread wearing out as I didnt have that much to begin with before the track day. However they are certainly not bald yet. The rears are worn on the outside edge (because I rotated the front tyres there) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/188852-hard-rubber-on-tyres-after-track/ Share on other sites

Happens to all of them. You will get pick up from the track - have you also noticed all the random black smudge marks on your paintwork? Is it a bad thing? Well if you want ultimate grip then yes it is. Road tyres don't like track work. If you are having a proper go they don't actually last much longer than good R compounds.... nuffsaid
Thanks djr They are Falken FK451's, but yeah the rubber feels harder than pre track day. I guess maybe they werent built to handle the temps, dammit aye no on the street Im faced with less grip =~( thats not what I wanted! So when there are huge worm like rubber bits stuck to yuor tyre, is that rubber picked up off the track, or my actual rubber from the tyre being smudged and rolled. I noticed after the sessions I was able to pick iff rolled up chunks by hand, there were too many so I just left em. djr81
It is mostly pick up. But check you tread blocks for the edges chunking. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/188852-hard-rubber-on-tyres-after-track/#findComment-3404512 Share on other sites
ryano
The rubber on your tyres is picked up from the track. Why dont you just ring a tyre shop and ask away? See if your tyres are suited for track work?, ask if they will go soft again after a warm up lap? ect. nuffsaid
It is mostly pick up. But check you tread blocks for the edges chunking. Tread blocks seem okay, sweet its not my tyres chunking off like crazy haha I hear that tread blocks tend to chunk off more with newish tyres? The rubber on your tyres is picked up from the track. Why dont you just ring a tyre shop and ask away? See if your tyres are suited for track work?, ask if they will go soft again after a warm up lap? ect. Unfortunately not many tyre shops know much or are very useful over the phone so I figured Id try here. It probably wont see much more track days as the tread is getting low, need to conserve them for the street. Im more concerned about the heat cycling and whether its rendered the tyres dangerous on the road.
