Hey guys and girls

Im thinking after i finish my track gtr on building a 32 drift car with a 302 v8 we have sitting around.

What you guys think got the idea this morn on the way to work mostly from the 34 with the Holden in it.

Thinking of going supercharger in it.I like the idea of having shit loads of smoke coming out the back from all that torque

keep in mind the weight that will be added to the front.

If you wanted to do it properly(lots of money) get an alloy racing block and alloy heads and that way the car will handle closer to stock.

however thats a lot of money.

Good luck with it, the 302 will fit in the engine bay and you will still have a high reving engine. I recomend a windsor.

Mine revs out to 6800 as a stocker. The clevo's arnt anywhere near as high reving and as a standard motor tend to be a little under powered at the 302 level, different at the 351ci + sizes

My 2 cents

You have some good points there but i wouldnt think that it would be much heavier than than the gtr engine with the front diff etc also the engine would sit back further in the bay because of the length difference.

i could have debate on the windsor clevo issue tho im a clevo fan as i think the windsor 351 isnt worth the trouble but the 302 is a great motor thats what we have got its just sitting there on the shelf

an iron block 5 Litre in a R32 might not be your best choice, if you not scared to change brand names for a transplant why not a 1UZFE...cheap as chips to buy and you get a much better V8 (6 bolt mains etc)

The fact that we have already got the engine and that im a ford and nissan man i thought just mix the 2. also my old man is an old school mechanic and he could get it cranking pretty good

Was going suggest an alloy V8 such as LS1 but you have your reasons. Could be a cool thing, but weight will always be there as you know.

Yeah i got good reason not to put one of them in and also its already been done before was thinking of keeping it old school with the cary then maybe upgrading to fuel injected later still will get 500hp out of the old girl.

The fact that the weight is going to be back further will help i will weigh it to see what extra kgs it puts on with the right front end setup should be ok

Fair enough....it sounds like an interesting project and seeing you already have the 302 why not hey. It would be interesing to see how much heavier a 302 really is compared to an RB...and your spot on there is nothin wrong with a

5 Liter Ford...we get 625hp out of ours...not bad for 7500 rpm limited on pump premium

The windsor is not that heavy i was thinking the top loader wouldnt need all those gears for drifting.

Why not the clevo that ones got some serious grunt the old man did a good build with that one ported and matched full rebuild it reved its tits off lol

You recon twin puffers or the blower?

Hasn't someone done this already in a 34GTT? I think they had a lot of balancing issues with the front being too heavy aswell. I'm pretty sure it's a drift car, or they use it for drifting aswell. Red in colour if my memory serves me correct.

Yes but it had an LS1 in it, not a Windsor.

If you want to run a Windsor you need to spend up on some nice alloy heads, probably a stroker kit & pay close attention to manifolding & exhausts. Even then I don't think it will hold a candle to an RB26.

None the less good luck.

Oh & top loaders are well old school. Try Tremec, rubbish shift feel aside.

Your right bout the 26 i will prob keep it as a drift pig as the engine is now then build it up once the problems have been sorted with it

GT Autosounds built the LS1 twin turb R34

engine is as heavy as the rb and weight distribution was better as it is a shorter length engine

i say go the 302 and a tremec box - top loader is bit too old school

You guys realise he already has the engine, so there's no point trying to push your opinions on different engines.

you wanna do this as a fun project, and somethig different go for it! But keep the carby i recon... :domokun:

It's not like it's a hard engine to get a hold of, neither is it rare or regarded as a powerful engine. Besides that a v8 in a skyline... it's been done many times before, not really original and will end costing you more than putting an rb25 in it, due to all the custom fabrication required.

    • Oh wow, it's easy to forget how cheap these can be. Probably the cheapest way to travel. Though people in cars here tend to be morons and I would not feel very safe. Were scooters ever big in Australia? It used to be the thing growing up in Europe ~20 years ago. 50/70/125ccm Peugeot or Yamaha and some others. Utterly obnoxious Polini race exhausts. Kick stands that slant as much as possible. So loud. So much noise for really not moving very fast at all. But it felt cool at the time. Not sure where I'm going with this, but there is an aftermarket for mopeds! Though I'd have pictured you more for a Goldwing kind of guy after growing out of the Harley.
    • You need to know I am sorry for this.
    • As the MX5 isn't apparently "manly" enough, and I need something for runs to the local shops, and also take to my part time job at the salon, basically I can keep the MX5 away from car parks and stuff......like "flying lockers", I was wondering what I could buy to fix this issue LOL, I pick up a new Yamaha 125 Delight this arvo from Trooper Lu, basically a R1 that you can fit a slab of beer on between your feet, also, it was $29400 cheaper than a R1, so actually it's 2 x better than a R1
    • Nah. H2S. H2S is "rotten egg gas", which is what is associated with no cat. SO2 is equally nasty, and if you've ever smelt it you'll know all about it. More of a choking, acid in the back of the throat sort of thing. But you can only smell it in a narrow range up to about 1ppm. Above that, it irritates your mucous membranes, but you don't smell it.
    • Kicked the 34 in the guts, she won’t be seeing the road till I get the 31 mobile again.  wont be long and she’s a bit of a garage princess anyway haha
