Hi all, anyway, this is a continuation of the SAU SA club thread sorta.

My idea was that we should all head out to an open track day (no drift) at Mallala to see what sort of a turn out we get there so we can hopefully get this club started.

Sorry for the short notice, but I kept forgetting about it and have been really busy with uni lately... :(

Anyway, finer details were requested, so here they are:

Gates open at about 8:30 and then driving starts at 10am. All drivers must sign on first so if you want to go out straight away, it's probably a good idea to get there before 10. Driving finishes around 4pm.

All drivers are divided into groups and then groups are run in 15 mins sessions.

For those not interested in driving on the day, entry is free and I think it would be a good opportunity to socialise the SAU people from SA.

For those wanting to drive,

drivers need Helmet with AS1698 APPROVAL by CAMS, clothing (non synthetic) with full length sleeves and leg coverage.

CAMS LICENCES MUST BE SHOWN AT ALL PRACTICE SESSIONS.

NON LICENCE HOLDERS MAY PURCHASE ONE DAY CAMS LICENCE ON THE DAY FOR $20.00.

The practice fee for 2007 is $90.00.

Taken from http://mallala.com/practicedays.htm

You do NOT require a fire extinguisher, battery triangle, or secondary bonnet latch, but the fire extinguisher is a good idea to have in the car.

You can drive as hard or as soft as you want. It is not a race and "racing" is not allowed on the track, overtaking is only allowed down the straights, so you dont have to worry about not being up with the pace.

If you're going to be driving hard, make sure that your brakes and cooling system are up to scratch. If they're not, make sure you know when you slow down for a while

Madaz is organizing the BBQ (cheers mate ) and drinks. We just request that everyone bring a maximum of $10 to pay for all the food and drink. Prices should be finalised just before the date.

According to the poll, there's more drivers, but I'm not sure who they are...

If your name's not on the list and you are coming, please tell me and I'll add you to the list.

If you're on the list and you're not coming, also tell me, this way we can try get an accurate idea of numbers and plan accordingly, especially for BBQ + drinks.

If there are any other questions about the day, feel free to ask, and I'll try answer them as best I can.

Cheers

Showza

I'm sure we can arrange another one and actually organise it better too

I'm definitely going out to this one though as there only two other scheduled days (10th and 16th of Nov) for the rest of the year and I cant make either of them (exams on both days).

Unless people wanted to do the same thing for a drift practice?

I didn't think that would work as well though, as not that many SAUers seem to be interested in drift, the environment isn't as friendly as a circuit day (in my opinion) and entry is not free for spectators.

But if anyone is keen on that idea, the daytime drift prac is on Dec 9th. Should be similar times, but different format obviously.

i reckon i will come out Luke if you want come in my car and save your car for when ever or follow or whatever :(

not sure i've met you yet salad so will be a good opportunity

i've printed out a list of user's and started getting who's interested just from the people who have been @ the last cruise just gone on Friday and i've put all the people who registered interest from dinner on it to talk with them some more about it

we all ready have one sponsor probably two and i can talk to you in more detail about that

Yeah, I'm always keen to meet people :)

I'm not sure that I'll be driving at this one anymore, all didn't go as planned over the weekend and now have to spend another weekend pulling things apart :(

So would be cutting it damn tight to get out there driving... Will give it my best shot though!

but as you say whether you drive or not its good for us to get out there and support who is so i shouldn't see this as stopping you from attending your own planned event ?

will give you more time to organise your BBQ :(

as Joel has told me Luke we drive through the hills, our cars are fine for that so just drive on the track like your in the hills with the confidence theres no speed cameras.

As for BBQ, well, umm... I'm really not sure how to go about it!

umm i think its hotplate and snags = bbq :):( you bring the salad :P;)

ok salad ill see if my mate wants to come out hes got one of these >> 4056.jpg

ill round up about 2kg of snags and bread and sauce and see how we go from there Luke can bring drinks if thats ok maybe those little buddy bottles @ woolies ATM

depending on how many come we can all chuck in $2-3 if so i may just get the drinks Luke to make it easy

Yeah, we need a good indication of numbers. By the thread now, it looks like 8 people and Joel (Cubes) will be there too.

So come on guys!

Madaz: Cheers heaps for organizing BBQ, I'm utterly hopeless at that sorta stuff, and the lack of time thing. If you want, I can go grab a slab of cans of coke and an esky on the way? Figure I should probably try do something for what I'm organising...

Oh, and what time was everyone thinking of heading out (non drivers)? I dont think I'd be that keen to get there as the driving's about to start, so I'm thinking about lunch timish? Like 12 or so?

Everyone elses thoughts about this time?

    • Yeah its bad eh. Ey! Watch your mouth. Yep, spot on. The rear's are always gone too though from brake checking. I had them perilously close to a tree that we had taken down. I think the tree peeps may have taken it. Either for a trophy, or accidentally.
    • f**kin' yikes! That insulation is the shittest stuff I have ever seen. You need to do an insurance job on that f**ker, pronto. WRT to the washer cover, I would have said that there'd have to be some at a wrecker, then remembered that it's a BMW, and reasoned that every single wrecked one would have been tailgating and so the front end would be trashed.
    • Oh and I lost my headlight washer jet cover!
    • Ok, so I got myself some X1 wheels really cheap to try out, they're a bit different and I like them but they're really narrow (18x8) they are available in staggered 18x8/9 also but really hard to find.  I kinda dig them, but not as much as the F10 19's I usually run, so these go into the wheel pile.         As I mentioned in another thread, I got a new exhaust. It's an off-the-shelf stainless one that fits OH-KAY. I don't love the tips size and how far they come out the back, I think I might cut the tips off and replace with some smaller (~3") ones that don't extend as far. It sounds really good though, I'm not sure if its just in my head but the car feels a little quicker, more responsive.      I fitted an eBay special front lip. Surprisingly it fit perfectly and all holes lined up. Its a little rickety but I haven't put any double sided tape on yet, I want to clean the front bar up where it has scraped the road a lot and fil in the number plate holes (or, get body coloured wrap to cover them - is this a thing?  I'm not sure if I'll leave it gloss or pain it matte. I really like it though, I don't particularly like the front bar without it, I don't really like the M-Sport and to get anything else is just too expensive. That said, I might need a new one now anyway as I dropped the car onto the jack after forgetting to put ramps under the front wheels. It bent a lot and while it did go back to normal after I got the car off the jack, I do fear I have not done it any favours.    Lastly, my headlights died. Different problems in each. They have gotten much dimmer over the past year or so, I put new (uber expensive) OSRAM bulbs in them but to no avail. One of them pointed at the ground and the other just kinda did its own thing with light working sometimes. Yeah, check this 18 year old BMW headlight wire. I reckon I know why they were stuffed.            BTW, the yellow and black is the power to the Xenons. Yikes. I hunted around an researched my options here. I would have loved to just get a replacement harness but not a thing. My car has adaptive headlights, that is they rotate left and right with the steering wheel. Good condition used adaptive xenons were over $700 each, non adaptive were around $400 each, but I couldn't help but think that they're all around 18 years old now, surely they'd have the same problems. So I looked at newer LCI headlights but they were even more expensive and I couldn't confirm that they'd be plug and play with lots of people having lots of opinions so not worth the risk.  I ended up getting brand new Chinese headlights from MARS. They're very close to OEM with only the angel eyes being a bit different. I didnt want crazy turn signals or sharp DRL's or anything. Not my bag.  They're not adaptive, I thought thats a feature I wouldn't really miss. So I coded that out.  The lights are awesome, they look so nice and they take so many years off the car. The angel eyes look great and the headlight brightness is ridiculous. I was so used to the old ones, I didn't realise just how bad they were. The new ones use the OEM bulbs, Xenon ballast and leveller motor which I was happier with. The only issue with them is that the rear cover is held on by SEVEN screws. This will be a nightmare to get to and open when I need to change bulbs.
