hey all,

i have a coolant leak that look likes its coming from the back of the engine somewhere :) , i cant stop its exact location. from what i can tell it only starts to leak after i turn the engine off. Any ideas wat it could be?

as i said, jack the car up, top it up with water and run the car, look under the motor and try and work out where its coming from.. eg front, back, left right.

You say its coming from the back of the motor, so it means more then likely its a hose around the back, there are several that run around there, turbo line, heater hoses and so forth... the fact its doing it just after its running means its a small split in the hose and the pressure in the system is causing it to leak.

once you have found which hose it is its a matter of getting a replacement hose and replacing it... all the hoses at the back are a prick to get to but not impossible,

I should have some time tomorrow so i'll see if i can get down there

its coming from the back left of the engine, the dripping is coming from just above the starter motor. i dont have a decent jack so i cant jack i up enough to get underneath the car and have a look. its def coming from above the starter motor but.

I had a problem similiar for a good couple of years.

When I pulled the old rb20det out I replaced all the hoses with new nissan stuff. Cost me a fortune. :S

New motor went in and the little hose that connects to the turbo water feed that runs around the back of the head and the little hose that connects to the thermostat housing; both leaked over night when the motor was cold. During the day when the car was warm etc it never leaked.

I spoke to my old man about it who's had a little experience in the truck and bus industry.

He said they had the same problem that resulted from the manufacturer changing the rubber makeup.

He said hose clamps are available that are sort of spring tensioned so when the hose gets cold it prevents leaks OR the other fix is to dap a tinny little bit of silicon on the metal and then slide the hose on and clamp it.

So silicon it was and not a leak since. FYI I did try multiple hose clamps, new hose clamps etc. ;)

lol good luck Darren :D wernt you selling your car anyways ... sudi arabi wont need a heater

Yeh i know! Not sure about the selling of her yet, see what happends after summer! Besides i'll have a new corolla around christmas time :) Thanks Dan!!

Who wants to take my dash out and fix my heater??? LOL Just jokes, but it does need fixing by next winter i think!!

I just ordered this:

http://www.ttzed.com/products/products_det...g&do=detail

Will get Boostwerx to do the job..... poor souls. apparently with autos you can do it via the glove box (degas/regas a/c).

Currently my unit is disconnected and bypassed. All the fluid from the core found its way thru my carpets

ive done a heater core on a r33 my sons what a mongrol of a job altho now i know where all the bolts are prob would not be too bad 2nd time around . i was told 300zx heater cores are the same as r33 ones. we paid 180 i think from the local nadrad dealer for the core.

My leak got a shat load worse on friday night, so im like nah F this ill take it to a workshop (friends of the family). after being in the shop for all day saturday and 200 bucks later i get my car back minus the leak. i did next to no driving sat night, sunday morning i was driving back from the shops and i can smell coolant burning, i drove really slow back home watching my temp gauge carefully, as i pull in it hits the "H". pop the bonnet to find another split hose  the top radiator hose.... another 10 bucks later i got a new hose on there.

no leaks so far but now im to scared to drive the car :S incase of another.... something or rather shitting itself under the hood. my question is, was this a coincidence? or do i have a more serious problem that needs attention?

any advice or thoughts would be awesome :D
