an ideal world would see Rudd as PM and Costello as Treasurer... but that'll never happen. As much as I like Rudd's charisma and authority on issues, I don't think he'll be able to bring Australia to as strong an economic standpoint as Howard/Costello. At the end of the day the standard of economy is what determines my paycheck, my mortgage interest rate etc, which are my major concerns atm.

That said, Howard telecomm infrastructure reform (seeing as australia is in the dark ages of telecomms and IT infrastructure) is a pipedream tailored to the common bogan who lives their life thru a current affair and today tonight... all hype, no thought. Rudd's is better thought out and realistic, however being a 10 year plan, there's no gurantee he'll be around to see it thru.

coincidentally, i'm still registered to vote in Sydney in my home suburb... and my local candidate for liberal is Howard himself ;)

this election has me torn... Rudd has my emotional vote, Howard has my logical vote.

a blind, deaf, mute monkey could have run the economy well over the last 10 years... not really a claim to fame IMO

as long as we keep digging dirt up and selling it to China we will be fine... as long as China and India continue to grow we will be fine... don't forget the last recession wasn't just confined to Australia...

but just like America over the last 10 years in this country the rich have got richer and the poor are just further in debt

ps. and I'm still not happy about Iraq, the AWB thing, Woomera detention centre and the list goes on... that smug little f**k thinks he doesn't need to explain or take responsibility for anything... just keep quiet and eventually we will all forget about it while we swim in our pools filled with champagne and dry off by rolling in piles of hundred dollar bills...

My thoughts entirely.

So how about you take a look at the two other economies that were previously our principal trading partners, ie Japan & the US. Both of their economies had struggled badly in the last 10 years. China is our #1 trading partner in part because of the failure of the US & Japan to maintain good economic growth. So that may be worth thinking about.

Yep, just like the ten years before that & the ten years before that and the..... This is not a new phenomenon.

I am not happy about Rudd copying the Liberals on tax policy, the pulp mill, refugee policy & a hundred other things. Nor him blaming his staff and/or running & hiding whenever he coughs something up. He claims it is new leadership - doesn't that imply some kind of leadership? - presumably different to slavishly copying your opposite number. Weak as piss is what it is. Peter Garrett must wonder what the hell he is doing.

By the way I have tried having no job because the economy was fkd (Thanks Paul :() Much rather have a job & an income....

Japan and the US have struggled partly because their manufacturing industries have headed to China in search of cheap labour... we have huge amounts of coal and iron ore, no need to manufacture anything, just put it on a ship and float it over

very true on the rich vs poor statement... I'll leave that one alone

I never said Rudd was a better idea, just a different one... sometime you have to change things up to keep the old guys honest... there is no honesty left in the Liberal government... just marketing, advertising thinly veiled as public service announcements and spin.... lots and lots of spin

good point about having no job, I'm not keen to try it either... but lets not get carried away, very different economic climate in the Keating days... stock market was way overvalued... similar to the dot com debarcle

I work in manufacturing & whilst the Chinese are a threat fortunately they haven't figured out how to do things efficiently & with good quality in large refinery/production facilities. Yet. So we are still in business.

Yes the federal governments use bucket loads of advertising - same as the state governments. Oppositions always claim it will be different when they get in - never is. All of them waste shed loads of money.

The thing people tend to forget is the dot com bubble & also the collapse of the Asian markets (Thanks LTCM!) was weathered well by the Australian economy. Yes black Monday in 87 was worse, but corrections happen periodically. It hasn't all been beer & skittles.

Can't believe anyone would even contimplate giving federal and state control to one party? With ex-union officials steering the ship I come down in a cold sweat. Why do you think Labour hasn't had a sniff at power in the past 11 years? Its because up until recently everyone rememberd the last time labour had control.

Its new/young voters that are pushing for change for change sake, don't be under any misconception. Rocksteady labour voters stopped supporting after the debarcle of thier last term.

I am afraid of the future under labour, not under liberal. Not only will your ability to buy and own your own home never be a reality, you can write off starting your own business, investments etc...

As a member of the Young Liberal Movement, I fully support John Howard. Kevin Rudd is an a extremely glib, underqualified and over confident Jack ass. I fear for Australia's economic future under a Rudd government, however the general condition of the country will dettriorate. As many Australian's know nearly all of Australia's media is left wing, and i will highlight some streams:

The Age newspaper- Consisted of mostly left wing journalists who's audience is a mix of business types

ABC- Proudly known as left wing socialist cops, Openly aware that they promote labour through their constant news reports and interviews showing pro's of the opposition in comparison to the negative aspects they highlight in our coalition governement (I hate you maxine and kerry you little red knob)

The chaser team is left wing, and openly denounce many government faculties, however hypocrytically government policy favours them (tax laws mainly)

Channel 9- Eddie Mcguire head of channel 9 a renowned labour supporter, and is followed by the majority of the station's major public figures i.e Ray martin. The most damming evidence of their overwhelming left wing views is the broadcast of the debate on sunday and the worm. Ray claimed that there was an audience consisting of 90 uncommitted voters, yet 90% of the time before rudd even spoke the worm was raising positively for him. Even when he stumbled and paused for a matter of seconds the worm showed him in favour. This shows that voters where not uncomitted like stated.

Yet John Howard shows his demeanor and true personality and i believe comes out on top as media constantly try and take him down. With the media behind the labour party, Johnny is doing a bloody great job as he stands up to attack after attack. No one can say anything bad about labour as they cry foul and say its a smear campaign. Rudd you gimp you've be smearing the coalition since you won leadership over beasley (beasley who?).

A Labour government with a nobody as PM, a clueless socilast ex lawyer as treasure and trade unionists running the rest of their bench will ruin Australia.

So yeah, Im voting for John Howard

If it were race car I wouldn't care if it were removed.
    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
    • Thanks for sharing this, and BTW if your headlights are in good condition they are worth thousands....you might want to consider replacing them with brand new LED ones like this (https://www.nengun.com/78works/full-led-headlights-r32-skyline) and making enough profit to buy a house in Sydney
    • I'm not sure what sort of shops are nearby, but I'd expect any reasonable exhaust shop could put a cat in it that will not restrict the power that engine makes. Otherwise, if you want to remove it, short lengths that replace the cat are readily available online, search for "de-cat pipes" or "test pipes"
    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!
