Hey all.

I am in a bit of a indecisive mood and cant work out what will be the next best mod I can do.

I have a 1996 R33 GTST with the following mods.

Apexi PFC

Nismo 555cc's

Full 3inch Exhaust + Downpipe

Turbo Elbow with screamer

Walbro 255lph fuel pump

Steel internalled standard turbo

Big FMIC

Hard Piping

Apexi Power cone thing

Cold air box for cone thing

Greddy Profec B Spec II for boost control.

Its just recently had quite a bit of work done and made 336bhp (250kw) on 1 bar of boost.

My target is 400bhp.

What turbo will be best suited for this kind of power with the mods I have already?

Options!

1) GT3071R

1a) as above on the standard manifold, does this fit?

1b) as above on a tubular manifold. Is this worth it?

2)GT3076R

2a) as above

2b)as above

Has anyone got any pics of either of these mounted to a standard manifold and a tubular one and also what exhaust housing configuration do you all use? Whats the best for good spool but good power also.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Steel internaled probably means a high flow.

As for the upgrade, first thing you'll need is a new fuel pump. My walboro 255lph (at 42psi) maxed at 280rwkw. I go the Nismo 275lph (at 70psi)

I used a Garrett GT3076 (GT3037) and a 0.63 rear and made 300rwkw with water methanol injection. Extremely nice power curve.

Here is my 300rwkw Thread

Your kidding lol I only just upgraded the fuel pump!

I dont really want an HKS turbo I would much prefer a Garrett.

So Jono can the GT3037 fit onto a standard manifold or do you think going to a aftermarket one is worth is bang for buck?

The turbo I had maxxed out at 336 @ 1 bar. 1.2 bar made hardly any difference is top end power so it wasnt worth it.

I think it was the fact that the boost was dropping down to about 1.05 at the top of th erev range.

If I start with the boost lower than this though, say 0.80 it creeps which drives me crazy so I need a set up that will eliminate boost creep as much as possible or entirely!

hey dude

The GT3037 is a garrett turbo. Mine has it stamped on the side. The model is 700177-5007 and ask for either the 0.82 or 0.63 XR6T style rear.

My standard manifold seems fine at 300rwkw too. BUt aftermarket always have their advantages and disadvantages. Weigh them up. If you can make your own, then make a good one ;)

And yeah, sorry to say about the fuel pump, but sadly anything over 55psi from them and they run out of flow big time. (42psi rail pressure and I had 18psi boost. Didn't like trying to push 60psi.)

HKS 2835 or something would be my pick as your after roughly 230-240rwkw.

Dont need a big huffer for that result at all.

Nismoid, I worked out that 300rwkw is 402rwhp.

Is BHP at the engine or something? If thats the case, then the 3071 or 2835 should be fine?

Thanks man, who wants a hardly used fuel pump lol.

Anyway, fitting this thing?

Is it straight forward or are there any tips you can tell me know before I start headscratching big time!

Ive been told me tuners over here that only a nissan cased turbo fits the manifold, anything more and it needs a new manifold.

p.s sorry for the rubbish typing above, i was in a rush this morning lol.

I think its because that over here in the UK putting new turbos that big onto the RB25 is not as common as there.

They have plenty of knowledge they have a 600bhp RB25 they have done alot of work on, but that one had a different manifold.

At the mo is a 3071 or 3037 the best option? I will be upgrading the head gasket also to make it a little safer.

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
