Bought a car and got this gearbox for free. It has a broken output shaft and previous owner told me that there is nothing wrong with this box but the shaft. I cannot believe that if the output shaft is snapped the internals of the box are undamaged.

Im planning to open it up and inspect it and hopefully fix anything thats broken. Problem is, i have never opened up a gearbox before. Is there something that might go ping and hit me in the head or something ?

Also, anyone got an image with an exploded view of one ?

Also one last question. will an R32/33 gearbox just bolt straight in a VL commodore chassis ? like mounts all in the same spot ?

For the box mounting - best off to check calaisturbo forums.

Plenty of that info there.

As for the box, if it is damaged you might be better off getting a 2nd hand one.

They are reasonably priced (compared to a rebuild) at around $600-$700 or so.
