Hey People!

Can anyone give me a rundown/walk through on all HICAS equipment removal? Pref. in a 32?

Whats all the HICAS equipment weigh?

Is it worth it?

Was there much of an improvement?

Cheers,

Cris

theres already a bunch of threads,,,,search if you want to get technical but

i think with oil all up it weighs about 27kgs(from what ive read on here)

it looked close to that when i seen it ALL out of my car.

i prefer it now compared to when hicas was in there.

but many people have different oppinions.

cost me $80 for the lockbar and about 1-2hrs labour from local suspension shop.

Cheers mate..

Ill look that up more indeapth.. im looking for a technical explination.

What do you mean other prefer it in the car?

Oh.. and btw. Just Jap in Syd have a set of R32 GTR wheels with tyres.. have a look on their site..

And from memory there is a set floating around on e-bay. dont know its ended or not yet.. worth a look..

Cheers mate

:D

with HICAS in place it makes it really hard to control or rather predict the car's steering response, and with it removed its basically RWD oversteer. i found in the GTS4 it definitely helps during spirited driving, as half the fun of ATTESA is keeping the foot planted and steering straight when things get a little wobbly.

Hmm.. can you go a little more technical?

I find with mountain roads that the attessa isnt used much.. its it possible to induce ATTESSA to kick in? Corner angle? Speed?..

hmm.. how much does it induce oversteer with HICAS removed?.. I dont want to be down a windey rd and cop a handfull of oversteer. Thats my biggest fear. If HICAS will help stop that. I may keep the system.

How do I get ATTESSA to work with me during spirited driving?

well on the trackdays I've been at I've noticed that ATTESA only sends power to he front wheels when the steering is relatively straight, ie not when the wheels are turned, so its not like you get AWD around a corner. But what I dd find with HICAS on say motorkhana days where you do a lot of turns was that the back would start swinging out around a corner, which is normal for a RWD car, but then HICAS kicks in twitches the back wheels, and makes it really hard to control. Took the HICAS out and I could countersteer and feed the throttle and control the oversteer... which meant that I could get the steering straight quicker, and therefore get on AWD between turns... instead of simply fighting the steering.

HICAS is great for day to day driving, highway driving etc, but on the track, and in the wet can make things bery hard to predict.

So say for alot of togue and mountain roads its better to take it out?

Its just that I have a fear, on any road of oversteer, I think I need a drift day to overcome this fear at high speeds.

I feel aslo, that my ATTESSA is at a bit of a waste as the car now has an RB25DE in a heavy four door, so its quite hard to get enough power to get ATTESSA to kick in..

    • I agree on doing some better than factory pistons, rods, and oil pump. For anyone using the vehicle on the road, I don't get why everyone wants big cams. The stock cam profile, with some more lift would be mint for road usage. Everyone going big cams and then wondering why it isn't as responsive in traffic, when they've shifted the torque curve upwards an additional 1000RPM. Make torque, at lower RPM. Sure it's not as cool as claiming "500KW" and revving it to 8,0000RPM, but that same torque 2,000RPM earlier... Then you don't need the extremely high end pistons and rods, and blah blah blah.
    • Personal experience. Those f**kers burn. And are actually a PITA to put out. Next time I walk down the back, I'll snap a photo of what the inside of the bonnet looks like when that thing ignites. PS, powder fire extinguishers are useless on that stuff too as it's fibrous and when it ignites, it starts to pull apart. And you end up just blowing powder through a sieve effectively.   Like the big thing is, if it's fire resistant, it's job is to stop what burning? The METAL above it? It's just to try keep heat off the bonnet paint work.
    • Oh man, sorry, $60.00000000... 😛
    • That's more or less what he meant. What it really means is that you do not have to go full crazy on the build. Don't need the best oil pump, expensive rods & pistons, big cams, etc. You can upgrade whatever you want instead of using stock level items, but you don't have to. Having said that - any time an RB is opened up, if anything is getting replaced, I think the opportunity should be taken to do all the sensible upgrades. Pistons, rods, pump, etc.

Hachette Collections Japan have not decided on a release date for these or other models in the series, so for the time being these are all there are available new.  These are showing up on Yahoo auctions at inflated prices already (especially the Celica and NSX) so get yours now at a very reasonable price before they disappear!
