Hi everyone, this is my first post and I am looking for some gearbox advice. The box in my 3-2 is on its last legs and I am considering a conversion rather than a rebuild. The obvious choice seems to be the R33 box, but the cost of this conversion seems a little prohibitive and the speedo / trans-tunnel / driveshaft/ cross-member modifications strike me as being a lot of trouble.

I have my eye on a S13 SR20Det box and from what I have heard it will bolt straight up once the bell-housing is swapped and a custom tail-shaft is fabricated. Is this correct? Also, the speed sender is apparently compatible, so no modifications on that front either. My main question is if anyone has had experience with this sort of conversion or perhaps a similar conversion using an S14 gearbox? Would a R33 RB25De box be a better choice?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

shifter position is different also.... not worth the expense. considering rb20 boxes go for 150-200 bucks.

i have about 10 sr and rb20 boxes at home i use for spares and they are weak as shit.

r33 or 34 or if you reaaly want 300zx are the only worthwhile conversion.

I've heard that RB20 boxes are similar to CA18s in terms of strength and that SR20s are stronger to some extent. My main reason for leaning towards an SR20 gearbox is how cheap an OS Giken triple gear-set would be several months down the track :(. But I guess I'll either have to swap in another R32 or go all out with a R33 gearbox. Thanks for the advice.
