Door Skin

How difficult is it to remove the outer door skin? When i got smashed, the panel beaters did a poor job of putting the door back together so now a number of parts are loose in there. How hard is it to get in there and tighten/fix stuff?

are you talking about the door trim? there's only about 5 or so screws and it comes off.

no, i mean the actual steel. there's something funny in all the lock/window mechanics that needs fixing.

there's no way you would pull off the skin to get into the door, you can access all you need by taking off the trim. In saying that if you have a spot welder and heaps of time to waste you could do it that way!

hehe yea, u will have to drill out factory spot welds and reweld it up when done, but pointless unless its got a big ding in it

drill out the factory spot welds using a modified drill bit with a flat head. not that hard... pointless, but not hard. easier to buy fibreglass doors.

you could buy the bit, but jsut as easy to machine one...

I was thinking about this the other day, pull the trim off and where the skin meets the door shell spray some deadner in the gap or that gooey stuff that prevents the sound of metal on metal that the panel beater should of put in there.

That may be that annoying sound

perhaps they didnt tighten the bolts on the bottom of the window when they were in there. it often comes loose over time anyway
