Hi,

I am thinking of buying a pioneer head unit (the 6950 one), from ebay since they are much cheaper. Will the AM/FM work? it is located in Singapore.

i also read on these forums Pioneer head units don't have an power antenna wire? is this still the case or have they now got one?

thanks

my brother got a pioneer head deck from overseas via ebay, and he's had no problem with it whatsoever. he got it from one of those cheaper e-bay stores that sell head decks. i have o idea about the antenna thing though, he hardly listens to the radio and his antenne doesnt work (or maybe it isnt even electric) its always up.

I just bought the model below your one P5950IB for my R34. I bought it cheap locally, connections from Strathfield car radios and installed with a case of beer as payment. Dodgy i know

As for the antenna, i don't know about that, as the R34 antenna is on the back windscreen? best to find out about the antenna thing buy downloading the manual from the Pioneer website.

Apparently the installer told me that i would need to buy some sort of adapter to convert the radio signals. This adapter should be like $15. I didn't need to install it cos he told me one was already installed. Could have been installed for compliance?

So all Pioneer decks will have the antenna up all the time? thats pretty crap design by Pioneer.

Can anyone recommend a good deck with direct ipod control and USB?

I have a 9850BT and the power antenna works fine, although my one is localy bought i would not reccomend pioneer, moving to an alpine soon.

I know back in the old days you could use the amp remote for the power antenna, dont know if you still can.

I sell them. you will alos need the antenna adapter as well. factory amps are a rarity in those. if you have the holograpic sound option it will have amplifiers on the speakers. no biggie they are speaker level anyway.

    • This is a simple swap when you reuse the RB20 loom and auxiliaries. I run a standalone, but if I remember right, using the RB25 ecu you only have 2 injectors to inverse.  There are many DIY's on this subject online, including this forum.
    • Surprisingly the D6000 is only $1999, I'm waiting for the BF/CM sales, and hoping to get one cheaper. D4000 is well priced, still outperforms the 13" SVS PB-3000 and is like 1/2 the price at $1699 RRP. I do watch a fair amount of movies, and listen to EDM, jazz, symphonies, etc. so the lower notes from a subwoofer are always appreciated. The front 8" stage, just doesn't provide you with lively feeling, even though they are pretty bassy for a pair of large bookshelves. Then again, these days it's just playing Wiggles, Blippi and Ms Rachel, another reason the 3m wide cabinet exists, to hide all the audio gear behind it. They used to sit on a nice pair of stands, but as you know, they make good baby traps too.
    • Granted, which is a solid reason why I don't have one. My floorstanders are only -2 dB at 22 Hz.  So they're still working down to <20 Hz. Which is no doubt part of the reason why my receiver shits the bed! That Tonewinner would be about double the cost though, so it's not apples and apples. There aren't many AU$1300 subs (that you can buy prebuilt, I'm ignoring what can be achieved by DIYing) that compete.
    • -6dB at 22Hz isn't that great, watch the data from the D6000 from REW
    • I'll just leave this here. https://www.adelaidespeakers.com/subwoofers.html TL loading, big power. They sound awesome. This is what I would buy if I was going to try to take the bass away from my floorstanders. Just go with the 12".
