Hey guys

looked under my car after i have put the engine back in and found that the sump is dented.. see pic.

Just wondering if the pick up would be damaged with this size dent. The lifters sounded a bit noisy too which i think would indicate oil starvation at the top end.

I figure i have to get this sump off.. i have a spare block with a pick up and spare sump on it so it can be changed.. just some advice would be great

thanks guys

that is the deepest part of the sump, but your oil pick up should be fine but it will still need to be fixed as it will be very close to the bottom of the sump now.

have a read of this thread, its got some detail on how to do it:

It shouldnt affect your dipsitck. If it was that bad then your engine wouldnt be alive right now

Hard to say man, as said above watch oil pressure if you can

A friend had a similar bump on a CA and we went to all the effort of dropping the xmember slightly to get the sump off and there was still a good 2-3mm of clearance.

If your like me and have nothing better to do on the weekend then why the hell not though ^_^

Now I will be using it more often and set to change oil and throw away what I had opened from last year.   Question is, does oil setting on shelf for a year or so breakdown or even few years?   how about sitting in engine?   engine rebuild will be a lot more costly hence why I change it every 12 month and wanted to get some opinion   question 2 is around timing belt, was done 4 years or maybe 5 years ago and since car done less than 1.5k miles. Would you change it ?
    • Nice! Love to hear the new exhaust. Remember to run the car without the exhaust for shits and giggles   I got my car booked into a local exhaust shop to see if they can help with the raspy exhaust note at around 3k rpm when under heavy load for mine. I have a HKS system but also some High Flow Cats.
    • Struggled as well. Got a 3:33.250 but couldn't find the half a second to get silver. I always slowed too much at the Esses du Karting section (specifically the last left hander going on to Maison Blanche). There's a good 1 - 1.5 seconds to be picked up there for sure. The other 1.5 seconds needed for gold would be just cleaning up the rest of the slower corners. I did notice though watching the ghost replays of guys getting 3:25's, they used the green painted surfaces to the extreme, with barely the inside tyres on the ripple strips. It looked like they had the car completely on the green paint at times (but obviously still contacting the ripple strips).
