Mind you someone down here had a bad experience with CRD so it just shows that even the “best” can slip up.

Yep and that's still ongoing.

From several people I've been told similar stories as well. I had some limited but decent service from Jim who runs the place, but the fellow on the desk and who booked in the job lied to me about several things and is still screwing me around. The list keeps growing of things Croydon did or did not the more I look at the car.

I will take one thing back, the fuel econemy problem turned out to be a Woolworths/Caltex problem not the tune (after Jim said all 98's were the same mind you). But as some you you have seen, the shit comming from the exhaust is still there, if less so with the BP fuel.

Every time I take the car to Sydney to fix things (that never seem to get done when I arrive) it costs me about $120 in fuel and all my day. Just factor that in when considering taking your car to a Syndey or Melbourne workshop. CRD has been surprised that I will not go away, others I have talked to just give up trying to get service, but thats not my style.

Jim seems to be a good tuner, it's the rest of the service I am very unhappy about.

Don't piss of a public servant.

I used to go to a well known workshop in Sydney - not CRD. It was a logistic nightmare AND $100 bills seemed to fly from my pocket everytime I walked through the front door. But I persisted because I thought it was worth it. As Borat would say...NAAAAHT! There was the rebuilt and re-rebuilt gearbox that saw the car there for close to two months the second time. When I picked it up after the second rebuild I said "so how does it feel?" and I got the response "oh, still a bit notchy". WTF???!!! Then I get a bill for a conversion to R33 GTR internals, which I didn't ask for, and the owner says it's a mistake he'll take care of it. Box still notchy so I go to see gearbox place that the rebuild was subbied to - another bloody trip to Sydney - who tells me not to use synth oil. Hmmm workshop sold me $50 of friction modifier prior to first rebuild because they thought it might help. Workshop owner's wife turns up at gearbox place (thanks gearbox place people) and wants to tackle me about unpaid bills etc - guess what, it's for the R33 GTR internals. I end up going to the workshop to sort this out where I get very warmly received amid much apology re the bill. And then there were the two times that I specifically asked for the FMIC pipe to be put on a certain way so it didn't rub against the front AFM. In the end it was easier to just get the thing home and change it myself.

I came to the conclusion that they were most interested in people who just pay endlessly without questioning things, and the crap off handed service I received from them was just bloody awful. I guess they thought that I was a bit particular and therefore too much like hard work. So...be warned about going to the supposedly "better'' Sydney workshops, a lot of them are just good salesmen. Sadly the place I was burnt by was probably better than many, but not as good as some local people who are also a hell of a lot easier to deal with and get the car to.

Maybe when you speak to Pete you could find out for sure if the AE86 problems were really Ed's fault? I accept you're not saying that is the case, but there is a strong implication and I don't think it would be fair to let that stand if it's not the case. As we all know Ed and Pete are in the difficult position of having to deal with a lot of modified cars that customers bring to them to sort out; many I've seen are just a dog's breakfast, although I'm not suggesting the particular AE86 falls into that category. It's a risky business as people sometimes expect miracles and Ed and Pete are only human.

Regards

Im not going to have a go at anyone here and I really dont want to insult Ed because he seems like a genuine decent bloke, but when it comes to my car, I simply just want it done right. I do know the full details of what went wrong and they have fixed the problems, but 2 blown engines later. He just seems to have a bad karma hanging around and I dont want to risk it. But I know these arnt the only problems around from both current and previous businesses. Anyways, all in all, I cant say that he wont do a good job on others cars, but just not going to risk it.

How do we find jake for tuning?

I have my car that needs a tune and i was thinking going to jake. Whats peoples thoughts?

Shit attitude, rip off, piece of shit. But I know some people have had good experiences with him, just not me. I despise him.

Nah, I had nothing to do with that. He just charged me a lot more than he quoted me and then a lot of the work was really dodgy, like lots of pin holes in welds on my intercooler piping etc

Basically in an article in a newspaper about his workshop, he wrote that pretty much all of his customers were street racers, so the police went to every customers cars and screwed them however they could. Well pretty much, i dont know all of it.

I'm not having a go asI was interested in the quote as well, but I think we should keep this to peoples direct personal experiances, not hersay.

I'd really like to know if more than one person has had experiance with "Skyline Performance" (http://www.gtr.net.au/). The website is one of the better designed ones I've seen for a car workshop.

Just spoke to Joe at Skyline performance. They mostly just do engines these days for the GTR.

Currently working from home (not in Charnwood anymore) and looking to open a business again.

Seems a nice fellow.

Does he do normal servicing?

I need a new place instead of integra

cheers
