where exactly did you get this 20%? Was it a number that just kinda popped into your head? Or was it a number you would pay?

Do you know how much an '04 CLK is here? have a guess. Do you know how expensive it is to own a car in japan - especially a luxury one and that Japanese people regularly move cars after 3 years, upgrading to something new - leaving a pristine car with 10 - 15k on the clock? Plus, the taxes for cars like that arent as ridiculously high as australia.

Plus, I can tell you over the past year Ive done my homework. Ive already factored in the prices for LCT, GST, import duty, shipping, insurance, dereg from Japan, reg in Oz and i still come out a long way ahead.

Even if i factor in 10% based on what you think Aussies would be willing to pay for a German car that was in japan instead of australia i STILL come out a long way ahead.

looks like a clear winner to me.

by the way, German cars dont depreciate nearly as badly as Japanese ones. Everyone knows that...except i hope for the GTR.

The 20% I just plucked out of the air dude, I have no Idea about prices of anything at all.... LOL , I have owned about 150+ cars in my short life....Suit yourself but don't say I didn't warn you .

When you compare prices in AUS and Japan , compare apples with apples, compare wholesale prices in Japan with same here , not wholesale Japanese prices with retail prices here .

Have you ever tried to sell a high price Merc in AUS ? Especialy one that was sold new O/S? When you do you will find out what I mean . I have done it before several times ..

By the way I wasn't including luxury tax because I was hoping you will buy it under the LCT threshold , if you don't you will loose plenty money !!!

Actualy luxury cars of any sort depriciate a lot more than run of the mill Jap cars here in AUS . If you want to know 4WD's hold their money better than anything else .I own a 2000 model Landcruiser, I'm about to replace with the new 200 series , I will get over $40k trade in for her and I only paid $69 k in November 2000 , find me a luxury car that will be worth as much as a % of the original purchase price.

Good luck with your venture and I hope you make heaps of $$$$

apples with apples. i hear you. Im still doing research. As it stands the LCT may not apply if i find the right car. i know how much it will sting if its over the threshold.,..57k wasnt it?

besides, before all that, i have to keep it safe and out of trouble for a year, then get it safely shipped to Oz. Once its there the old man, who deals nation wide in cars, mind you, will im sure find it a good home. Im also concerned about the ship hitting icebergs and all that...you know wharfies loosing control of the thing trying to floor it out of the container and putting it over the edge of the port...

:)

shit, how funny would that be if any of that were to happen!!

    • The Neat gears use an alternative profile, no? Something different to what normal OEM stuff is. Is the noise at all traceable to that? Reason I ask is that my CW&P are effectively past their use by bate and Neat is the obvious option.
    • Just picked up my first skyline. R34 4 door with an rb25det and manual swap. I’m in the US. It has a bunch of issues but the problem I’m chasing now is the indicator, hazards, and horn do not work. I took out the indicator relay and fuses and tested separately and they seem to be working fine. When I activate the turn signal stalk or the hazard button nothing happens, no clicking, and no dash lights. Same with the horn. What should I test next? The headlights, taillights, and brake lights work fine so I think the stalk is good.

    • So mines not in yet ... which should tell you something ...   I got a set of neat gears as well, took a year to get those. Then the setup was a real tricky one, with all the changes. It seems the shims for the front diffs are in short supply and had to wait two round of custom ones. This was all done by a professional diff builder , not me/diy.   So here we are about to go into 2025 and I do finally have a built front sump / diff / gears.  Just need the mojo to pull out the engine ...   Oh as an aside on the neat gears, they have some whine, mostly on decel. Taken a bit of setup again to get that down to a street car level.
