tommo , the seats are tight! my legs and arse went knumb after about three hours at the wheel. but you need the wrap arounds because these cars pull some gs going around corners! my old skyline would have destroyed the evo rolling start but no way standing start! and definately kills the skyline going around corners and pulling up.

haha, yeah they're tight huh!! I guess I might sound like a dick posting this, but remember you're comparing a GTS-T vs a Evo... it should be a GTR vs Evo, as that will equal up the standing start and corner thing haha :)

Still, the evo is an awesome car, congrats on the buy, having a newish car is awesome hey... just get in it and drive! :)

Make sure you get to a track someday... the car will amaze you..!!!!

yeah, i forgot that you had to hold the the clutch down to start the car lol! i pulled into the first servo i came across even though the car already had half a tank of gas i wanted to make sure that i made it to at least goulburn before my first fuel stop. i was fiddling around for about 5 minutes trying to work out how to start it before i rang sam. they had shown me but i was too excited about driving her home.

i highly recommend jap-link to anybody wanting an import car. i noticed quite a few great examples of gtrs as well. i couldnt believe how clean my evo was even the black one was awesome! it looked better at the car yard than on the photos. i swear my evo drives like brand new. i loved my 94 gts-t but stepping into a 2001 evo 7 was a huge step up, they are so quick straight from the factory.

definately give sam and michael a go if you are in the market for a good quality well priced import. cheers carl.

R33 GTRs are super common nowadays, 80 percent of people cant tell the difference cos of the amount of GTS-Ts running around with GTR badges.

Driven a few of them, they feel very heavy, go quite fast. Interior feels cheap. Car feels nice to cruise in though, you can be content just quietly cruising around and listening to that RB26 :)

Trouble is that RB26 and the gearbox is the cars achilles heel. I love driving cars hard and Id safely say a 32/33 GTR will not cop the abuse id put it through.

The evo is a much newer, rarer car, slightly more upmarket interior. They are smallish, uncomfortable and dont look "hot" but they are a drivers car, handle like nothing else through the tight stuff, and have a stupidly strong engine and drivetrain!!!

Weighing up the odds, Id go the Evolution for a street/weekend warriour/daily.

Id only go a GTR if I was committed/Able to Pour money in it and that I would use it for circuit, hillclimbs and drags etc.

i havent a problem with either.. and thats with near on 300awkw everyday as its my daily driver and i also thrash it very very nicely... regular 8500rpm car

service it regularly, excellent compression still and starts first go.

Ive also driven evos as one of my very good friends has owned both an evo 7 and a evo 8. 2 8's actually..

The evo was 7 was just ur normal evo 7 as was on of the 8's.. the other was a MR evo 8.

Now, havin been stuck with them for a while i can say that i didnt like either of them around town. No torque down low (i dont care what ur piece of paper says, they have no torque down low) and the throttle response was pretty crap.

But after all it is a 2lt low comp 4 cyl engine with a reasonably sized turbo. The MR once on boost was quite fast (made over 200awkw with exhaust and filter mods with a lil extra boost ontop of the already 19psi)

and it handles exceptionally well.. The GTR cant match the EVO for handling, but in straight line mumbo and out of corners... the GTR excels. Ive never had my mates evo come even close to me in a straight line or out of corners.. and when behind him in the corners, he slows me down comin out of them. The evo also understeers easily being a permanent AWD and the brakes arent as good as u think. I can out brake my mates evo.. in fact.. the faster we go, the more i can out brake him by.

I would never own an EVO as they are simply too slow around town (not 6krpm+) and they have no character.

Plus.. like someone already mentioned.. a GTR is and always will be a GTR. King of the Road/Track

just thought id post this up to see if i can get an unbiased opinion lol? i recently sold my r33 series 1 1994 r33 gts-t that had 346rwkw. i now find myself in a a bit of a delemma between the car i should buy and the car ive always dreamed of owning. im 36 years old with a wife and two small children and a mortgage, although i bought my house 7 years ago before everything went up! so i have enough money left to still own a 2001 evo 7 or a 1996/97 r33 gtr , both cars would be standard. i already own a family friendly nissan patrol but i was at kamikaze motors the other day to test drive an evo 7 but the one i saw advertised wasnt there for what ever reason, i should have rang first i guess. then i saw two gtrs forsale within my budget bog stock with low kilometers ,they were immaculate examples! and i realised that i still have a soft spot for skylines. which would you guys go for? i mean a 2001 evo 7 or a 96 gtr? both standard? i only do 6000 kilometers a year. seing how both cars have depreciated so much already which one would drop the least ammount of money now? cheers carl.

OK......I STILL HAVE THE SERIES 2 R33....BEEN A SAFE TRIP SO FAR AFTER 3 YRS.YOUR COMPARISON IS BETWEEN THE EVO7 AND GTR SERIES2?........CAN GET BOTH IMPORTED EASILY.PLENTY OF EVOS FOR SALE I THINK.

THE ARE QUITE DIFFERENT CARS THOUGH.LOOK WISE THE SKYLINE EASILY WINS ESPECIALLY INTERIOR WISE.NEVER DRIVEN THE EVO BUT THEY APPARENTLY HAVE ENHANCED SUSPENSION SYSTEM THAT CORNERS ON NOTHING.SO MIGHT BE FASTER AROUND CORNERS ETC.STRAIGHT LINE SPEED MIGHT BE THE GTR THOUGH.....I WOULD IMAGINE AS STOCK.

MECHANICALLY THE EVO IS GOOD.......AND YOU NEED FOUR DOORS?

I WOULD TAKE THE GTR..............BUT IN YOUR POSITION I WOULD GO FOR THE FOUR DOORS.

Just read this thread. and i'm in the same scenario.

I'm young and don't have kids.. and i currently own a 90' R32 GTR and 94' R33 gtst.

Thinking about selling them both and starting fresh.

What do you guys think i should get a R33 GTR or a EVO 7

Will mainly be used for daily driving.

Keep your opinions rolling in!.

Chalk and cheese. The GTR is more suited to track, highway crusing and going fast. A light tune will see a GTR doing easily 270km/h. Try that in an evo.

The Evo on the other hand is smaller, lighter, more nimble and designed for rally. I think more suited to driving around a busy city like a maniac than the GTR, as you have to rev the GTR to get it really going.

Having said that, i love my R33. Its a daily driver / company car. Runs great, super reliable and bullet proof. Though that last part probably comes down to maintenance habbits.

If you had a choice go both. But frankly you cant drive like an idiot in traffic all the time. Most of the time your crusing stuck behind a camry or a magna so you might as well have space to spread out and relax.

    • No intention of driving the car the way it's set up now, just wanting to make sure I haven't made any mistakes along the way so that the tune can go smoothly, I don't want to waste anyone's time with stupid issues. And of course I intend to get it towed to the dyno in a completed state 😅 I have the base fuel pressure with the vacuum disconnected set at about 40psi, which I believe is at least relatively close to stock fuel pressure, maybe I'll have a fiddle with the reg and see what happens. For all I know I could be wasting my time with this and I should just plumb it in and see what the tuner reckons. I just find it a bit strange that it seems to be under so much load just free revving, but maybe that's just a result of the turbo slowing down the exhaust gasses and making a restriction in the flow, with no boost to compensate.
    • The boy just hit up google translate and it worked a treat, he said step one was "please urinate with precision and elegance", he then sent me the correct translation  I get some new loctite for the small fixtures tomorrow and get some "dort" going after that 🤣
    • Right, so is the fuel pressure the same as it was previously? If not, well, it's not going to work well. I can understand the theory I assume you are going for, which is: "Run it N/A, and if I have the original AFM, and same amount of fuel and intake air as previously, the fact there's a turbo in my exhaust should still make it run" Which it... might? Provided you don't actually change how much air or fuel is going into the car.. or getting out. But if you have changed that, all bets are off. What is the purpose to even have the car run this way? To get it to a tuner? And if the goal is to limp it to a tuner, you're still going to what - plumb up a whole intercooler system and new intake in the parking lot out front before your tune......?
    • Haha yea it's a bit of a weird setup at the moment, just wanted to make sure I sorted out any headaches before dyno day. At the moment I've changed the exhaust manifold, turbo and downpipe, 460lph fuel pump and rising rate reg as well as the previously mentioned headstuds and gasket. The nistune was already mapped for the car as it was and drove around for a few months no worries. The plan is to run flex fuel hence the big pump, which I've wired direct to the battery through a relay to avoid voltage issues.
    • Um. Was the ECU the same as the one previously there? I know R33's needed R32 GTST ECU's or other tomfoolery to run Nistune. This is such a wild setup. Most people would plumb in the turbo then not drive the car (i.e tow it to a tuner). What's actually changed since it last ran?
