When I did my last service I noticed bits of thread from the sump on my sump plug.

It pretty much only holds on one or two rings of the thread now.

I am not driving it till this is fixed so...

What's the best way of fixing this?

could get a helicoil fitted or maybe drill out and retap but would need an oversized sumplug. Just ring a thread repair man he wil be able to fix it.

Weld your old sump plug in and drill and tap a small dia bolt hole into the back of it.

Thats if its quite large, i actually havent looked yet so not sure. O/wise as above get a helicoil kit from bunnings and helicoil it if theres enough meat. Not sure about having to go oversize, helicoil drills out oversize and the helicoil/thread brings it back down to original????

i just found a slightly larger bolt and forced it

its just a bolt man. it needs a new thread one way or another. if you replace with something else, cut it first so its not overly long so ther is no chance of interfering with anything

This just happened to me. The thread on the sump is damaged and as a result the sump plug does not tighten.

Can anyone please give me some advice on where i can find a mobile thread repair man in south east Melbourne?

Holy thread revival!! I've just had this problem with my 32gtr. I've been thinking about going the helicoil option however I'm worried about any left over metal filings left in the sump ruining my engine. Any thoughts?
