Well I think the 34 was the last line, release of the v35 without a turbo ended the tradition in my eyes. Guess ill have to save for the R35.. Damn.

the skyline name continues in soprtscar form in the V35, V36.. see one in the flesh, then drive one and you will see

the heritage and tradition continues in the form of the GTR

i don't know why the angst over the new skylines. is it because they are not affordable anymore to the masses? is it because they are not modification-friendly to the 18yo tossers that like big BOV's and cannon mufflers?

sometimes a little class and technology isn't a bad thing..

EDIT: this post may sound harsh but its the straw that broke the camel's back for me.. i'm sick of people crying over the look of hte new GTR, the fact that there's no manual with a clutch, etc. etc.

We are all individuals and like our cars (Skylines, GTR's whatever) for different reasons.

I personally like my GTR for it's looks, performance and more importantly it's price bracket!

yeah fair enough my views are biased, but i appreciate the change of the GTR. its been coming for a while. everything changes eventually as companies strive to offer new disngns with new technology. do people think nissan should be making R-series skylines forever? i'm already getting bored of the shape of hte R32 having previously owned one for only 5 years

but the new GTR set in stone now, it cant be changed.

what's to say that a bunch of forum users know better than nissan design engineers?

a bit of discussion is healthy but it think its beginning to go overboard with complaining about no manual transmission and how they think it looks ugly.. i can almost feel someone wanting to start a petition for nissan to change the name of the GTR to include skyline

im a bit iffy bout the look, looks good from the back just chop that wing off and stick something more like the r34's wing on there and some holes in the side of the front bumper could add a lil more style points. im sure veilside will whip something nice out of the car and prob a couple of ugly 1s for those that like to be diff. i would do some photo choping but im no good at that stuff.

im sure when i see one reeling off an 11 second quarter i wont really care bout my minor beefs with the looks. i was iffy bout the s15 when it came out as well but after seeing a few in action and without that crazy wing some of em came with(the high 1 with the brake light in it) i started liking it.

now could they get it entered into the next "supercar" bathurst race

To be honest fellas, I am a fan of the new GT-R also, I love the sides, the flaired guards, the back isn't too bad either... the wing (well that can be easily changed) - but the thing that's wrecked it is the front... looks exactly like a 350Z Malady spec... that's where I am dissapointed.

I really hope this new GT-R will bring back the goods for Nissan...

Hey fellas, thanks for all your comments... I think, like most have said, healthy discussions are good - it also shows how much we love our Skylines and the GT-R heritage.

The fact is I have never seen the R35 GT-R in the flesh or driven it... but I have driven the turbo 350Z ... I was so dissapointed... for it's price tag and hype... the 350Z is not what it's cracked up to be... more like a Camry Sportivo-type of car than an actual sports car like the GT-R is.

That's the thing, the new GT-R is no longer a true manual, no clutch, looks more for luxury than power sports and it's price tag is aim mored at the mid 30's or 40 year old's out there as opposed to the mid to late 20's or 30's ...

I just hope the GT-R lives up to it's hope not like the 350Z ...

don't underestimate the buying power of Americans. they've been pining for a GTR for years, and now that they can legally get their hands on one, with a factory warranty to boot, I doubt many would care if it looked like a 350Z as long as it had a GT-R badge stuck on it.

the GT-R when originally launched in 1989 was never intended for your average 20 year old on P's to be hooning around in. it was the refined sports car for the older, mature 30 to 40 year old japanese family man. The new GTR is targetted at exactly the same market this time too.

We're not talking 15 year old rustheap GTR's any more... we're talking about a brand new show pony.

I love Skylines so much I actually have factored it into my life/career plan... I drive a beast of a R33 GTS-T now, but my next car will be a GT-R... I don't like the R34 at all, not a huge fan of the 350Z either... I was actually hoping for the R35 to be something that had the look, the grunt and the elegance as my next car in the next 5 years also... I am hanging to sit it in the flesh and drive it myself as from just pictures, I might not go for the R35 no more as it's lost it's "character" in my opinion.

Might go for a R33 GT-R then... but I mean, a R33 is a R33 ... GT-R or not... of course there's power and all that as we all know; I just want something different.

Bud, do you realise what youve just said? more luxury than power sports? You're kidding right? Isn't 480 BHP enough for you to be considered power? Aren't 3.6 second bursts to 100KPH fast enough for you? Aren't 11 second quarter mile times quick enough for you?

Spunky, the GTR is a bonafide supercar with all the trimmings. Theres VERY little on the open market that can do what the GTR can for the price it asks.

You should be very grateful Ghosn decided to go through with it. Nissan and its parent renault are thrifty spenders. They have been trying to cut back on everything they spend in all departments.

F1 takes a lot of money for example. An obscene amount of money.

Ghosn nearly pulled the pin on the GTR project early on citing financial reasons.

Just think about what we may be lamenting if this project hadnt gone through.

BTW, the Zed and the GTR are worlds apart in engineering, price and market placement. There is NO direct comparison really.

Its all good! At least we can say we HAVE the GTR instead of crying into our beers over a legend never to be revived.

LOL, mate the GTR will be here for as long as the 911 is, for example. The Porscher is the benchmark after all.

You neednt worry. As long as there IS an economy, there will be a GTR to sap taxpayers funds!

Spunky, the R35 GTR puts the R33 in the shade. The 33 was a passenger car. The GTR r35 is a completely different thing... Its an independently engineered supercar. Out of the Box. Without having any ties to a family sedan. With performance that will put many cars more than double the price to shame.

Just on that fact alone, the R33 and R34 ( which was close but not close enough ) will never get a sniff of the performance the 35 has from the get go.

You just need to get used to it. You will. Trust me.

The R35 struck me the second i saw it.

Its certainly something to behold and admire. Im very much looking forward to test driving it.

If you want something different, order the new GTR. I can tell you now that 99% of SAU users won't be able to afford one...

AGREE 110% who gives a f%@$ if its not called a skyline or it hasnt got a clutch, manual gear box we are in 2007 not 97 and that companies can actually produce a dsg box that can handle 360kw! All the people winging that it hasnt got manual box can keep their manual gtst and r32's as they are like the majority on here that cant afford 150k for a car! me included !
