100k Service $1600!@?

need 100k service, car is already at a place my friend told me were honest and bla bla bla, well the guy has had it for 3 days now he needed to order in the timing belt and some other shit, i thought i would be looking at around $800 not $1600

cant do much now as the car is has already been worked on but yeah,

its a 97 NA auto r33 it needed sparkplugs,belt,lube change ect,ect all brakes are in bad condition, auto tranny service

some feedback asap would be very much appreciated.

im going to be broke for a few weeks =/

timing belt can be had the same day... no need to be waiting 3 days for that stuff

even if they replaced all your rotors and pads I still can't see it being anywhere near $1600... but then again I haven't seen the invoice etc... get them to break down the costs for you, sounds a bit on the high side

ah didn't read the bit about water pump... still, they aren't very expensive... under $200... also you should be able to replace your pads for under $200... just some Bendix or Lucas would do the trick... in fact if you went for a nice cheap pad you could probably get in under $100... that said I'm not suggesting you get cheap brake parts... one area you don't want to skimp

Good idea to do the water pump as its a pain in the ass to get to. Should be a touch over $100 for a reasonable one, as should be brakes. Depends if the disks needed doing also... Spark plugs cost $25-$30 for six and isn't a hard job depending on what kind of plugs they used. Iridiums you're looking at $150-$200 for all 6.

Timing belt kit can be had for around the $300 mark. $10-$30 here and there for flushes, oils, filters etc all adds up too. Labour would be the big issue.

aparently he has put in platinum spark plugs? the guy said he wanted to put the water pump in because its hard to get too and he might as well seing that hes changing the timing shit.

im getting my car back tomorrow $1150 later, he wanted almost another $400 to do just the back brakes!!@@!!@? i think this guy is on crack. il go to brakes plus or something. im sure it will be cheaper.

100K service for my 34 came in around the 1k mark. Sourced my own parts to cut cost ie: Genuine Nissan Waterpump, gates belt, tensioner and idler bearings, seals. Labour was about the $500 mark which included replacing all fluids, filters, radiator flush etc..dropped my car in the morning and was completed same day in the afternoon.

Things to note: Always pre-book your car in and make sure they know exactly what they have to do. Source your own parts to cut costs, workshops will always charge a margin if they buy the parts. Confirm how long it will take and also costs so you don't have any nasty surprises when you pick your car up. It shouldn't take 3 days for a 100k service.

sounds like you just gave the car to him without running over exactly what you want done. might as well give him your pin number.

i paid around 1600 for mine with genuine parts. exhaust studs and gaskets and rocker cover gasket change was included in that price.

i think i paid 180 to get my brake pads changed and discs machined. 400 sounds abit excessive.

No offense mate but I think your gonna be in for a very rude shock. It's a performance sports car, not a commodore and I think you will find you get what you pay for, especially with brakes. If you want to use cheap and nasty parts and cut corners, don't expect your car to perform to its full potential. Don't want to sound like a prick but you really need to do your homework and find out a lot before going to the service with mechanics and these cars and before committing any money or handing over the keys as I have unfortunately found out.

And to n15mo, while it is good to source your parts you will find that the mechanics will not carry out warranty without you paying the associated labour costs to their workshop, something that I decided not to skip last service and it has saved me about 300 bucks and counting.

4 genuine brake pads are just under 200$ trade . I wouldnt ever use bendix or some other crap ones . if your rotors are to low to skim they can set you back 250$ for decent DBA ones.

you should always do your water pump while your there changing the timing belt

Why don't you state the workshop you went to so that fellow SAU members will not go again .

My major service cost me $1,000.

OEM Nissan Timing belt, OEM Nissan water pump, new battery, new O2 sensor, all bearings changed, coolant flush. Took slightly more than half a day to do.

I will prolly be sourcing my 100 000km parts from Kudos Motorsports (Sponser on here) as they have different kits for what you want to replace. I would recommand sourcing your parts from a sponser and then getting your mechanic of choice to install. I think each state needs a recommanded workshop sticky in each of their forums covering body, mechanical, suspension etc...

mine cost 3.6K.... although I pretty much replaced everything except the major Engine parts (half of the manifold and turbo studs were broken, requiring drilling, which took a lot of time, increasing labour costs)

got mine done at UAS. costly, but my car hasn't missed a beat (except for coils and a flat battery here and there)

i know its an import and that shit costs extra but i just wasnt expecting such a high cost, and from what most of you have said i have been taken for a ride. oh well these things happen,

about the brakes, i dont need the best brake pads in the world, afterall it is only an auto non turbo and i dont drive it very hard anyway (1 point left)

il get them done some time in the near future.

the reason why it took so long is because he had it over the weekend from late friday arvo(the only time i dont work) he also gave me a car to use on monday and today so i could get to work.

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A PLACE IN MELBOURNE THAT I SHOULD GO TO? i dont care what side of melbourne it is on.

my full service only cost me$650 from a very trusted workshop in newcastle,i supplyed the timming belt

my 100,000km kit cost me about $270 then i just put it all on myself would be happy to do other people's for a small cost
