With removing the 180km/h limit on my R33 should i go a fuel-cut defender or get someone to fiddle with the ECU wiring (without removing HICAS)?

I was advised by an auto parts shop to get the defender (obviously wants a sale)- but which is the best option for a mild modification plan for a 33?

Also can you guys confirm if a stock 33 with the limiter removed does 240km/h? Or is it more/less?

Cheers :P

fuel cut defender isn't for removing speed limit its for clamping airflow meter voltage to avoid hitting R&R i'm pretty sure. My 33 hit about 200 before the cut.

Skyline dont have a fuel cut..................

A skyline can do more that 180km/h

and why would you wanna that for anyways man

The dude told me the defender removed speed limiter, and it could then hit 240!

Thought maybe a retune of ECU could get that speed too.

Why u think i wanna hit 240km? Racing & track days :P

you want something like this if your really keen

http://www.nengun.com/hks/speed-limit-defencer

also heard of people cutting wire 53 on the ecu

other options power fc, emange ultimate etc

Thanks mate. I read cutting wire 53 also removes HICAS. I only want to remove speed limiter.

So you recommend that defencer over anything else?

depends on how much money you have to spend, if you have a few mods id go for an ecu upgrade and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I bit the bullet and just got a pfc.

i believe so

if your planning on tracking it maybe chuck a lock bar in the back and just cut the wire will cost you like 100 bucks for a bar and 50 something for an alignment.......

..just an idea

I'm not fussed with money- just results. From the prices i've seen its about $200 for the defender and the HKS defencer is about that too.

I was gonna keep the stock turbo (a big turbo maybe down the track) so no need for a stand alone ecu- just a retune will do i reckon.

That's why i want something to remove limiter, mayeb a retune can do it all in one hit?

I Had a SAFC II which eliminated that problem.

Good idea. I was gonna go an SAFC II but thought it's a waste with minor mods (esp. stock turbo). They're about $400-$450 + dynotune right? So maybe $700+ for a retune and limter removal with the SAFC II?

Does this sound right?

Id plan for the future so you dont have to spend money twice. I wouldn't bother with the fuel cut defender you would be better off with an safc as you can use it too tune AF ratios

I agree. Better to do things first time round.

I have a speed limiter overide unit to connect to a stock GTR ECU, but I ended up replacing it with a Power FC in the end.

Sounds like both you blokes recommend aftermarket ECU retune.

For the extra cash i'm happy to spend, you reckon performance will be much greater with factory turbo?

safc wont remove speed cut just allows you to alter airflow meter voltages (correct me if i'm wrong), you can get a new neo for like 400 (ebay) but should be able to get an safc2 for 300 second hand if you look about

cant tell you power increase becuase I havent had it tuned yet (will come in the next couple of weeks) but im expecting about 200 rwkw on the stock turbo with supporting mods. Tune is 500 bucks so not cheap but im expecting a decent incease over the entire rev range plus if i do more mods like airflow meter injectors turbo all i will have to do is retune

I kinda like HICAS, took some getting used to though (feels squirmish around corners). Not bothered to lock it unless it gets in the way of powerslides (which i don't really do on the way to uni) :P

So it's not gonna do the job? I'd go the SAFCII but not if i need to get another part to remove the limiter...

anyone know an all-in-one piggyback unit?
