im once again asking for your help

my mate has offered me a r33 gtst manual coupe uncomplied series 1

his asking $8000

it can be complied for $3000 on top of what he wants.

is it worth it? or what do you guys think its worth

Different people will give different opinions but unless the car is immaculate, you can see it before you buy it and low kms i wouldnt really see the point of having to go through all the compliance crap.

Local r33's which you can inspect beforehand (have a mechanic look over it for $50 even!) are going for around the same price (if not lower) and can be put into your name and drove the same day.

So many horrow stories of "mates" getting people cars then the car not being ledgible for complaince or the car having major issues. Dont be fooled into getting a car with a million modifactions imported either as this usually results in you having to spend more money in chasing up stock parts and having to put them all on for complaince/rwc.

yeh the only import i ever buy is one with the plate on it already. the amount that have slightly bent chassis, rust in hard to spot areas etc that get knocked back never to be registered again are scary

I'm assuming your friend has a compliance workshop?

The car seems a bit expensive, but hard to tell without seeing it.

We're selling a series 2 manual for $12,000 (including compliance)

$3000 is definitely expensive for compliance. We do r33's for $2000 including GST, discount for cash.

Compliance will depend on what the import approval states, under the new scheme a car is locked in to a RAWS workshop (but can be transferred if both parties agree).

All cars imported under the old scheme now have to be complied under the new scheme, but there are no restrictions on transfers.

I'd say if your friend cannot guarantee the compliance, take it to a workshop to make sure it CAN be complied before you buy it.
