Yeah mine has it to. Allthough when we replaced the windscreen just put a standard one in there. Couldnt justify the price difference for the amount of time im likely to use it.

Didnt know it did the mirrors though, might have to try it.

it is an rs4 - so i guess it just shifts to 2nd early to stop spinning yeah?

its got the owners manual (english) i will just copy down what it says in there then , mystery solved !

RBPOWA have u got a scanner. can u scan the manual and put it all up for us. Will take a while but will help alot.

WIPER DE-ICE SWITCH (grade)

The ignition must be ON. It is designed to heat the lower part of the windscreen trough embedded heating wires to help melt any ice that has formed around the wipers.

Press the lower part of the switch and the system will turn on for 15 minutes, then automatically turn off. If your wish to turn the de-icer off manual simply press the lower part of the switch.

this part is from the adivce section .....

' in vehicles with door mirrors, the door mirror heaters will also operate when the rear defogger switch is pressed.'

I'm going to have to check if my aussie mirrors will de-fog , I know that windscreen de-icer works.

But the real question is:

What the heck does the 'Light Reduce' switch do? And it is messed with at compliance? I'll be damned if I can detect anything changing on my car with it 'on', so I leave it 'off'.

I've heard plenty of 'theories', but no definitive answer. Further to that, if the feature is useful, then I'd like to know how it's been disabled at compliance. I have found no power on any of the wires going to the switch, nor any fuses that seems to relate to it.

If you do not have xenons it could be this:

From what I can make out, it increases or reduces the intensity of your headlights depending on what your are doing eg. stopped at lights - low intensity, driving at high speed - high intensity, it may even lower the intensity when you are passing cars, I'm yet to work it out. There's something you can try on the weekend.

P.S If you have "aussie compliance" mirrors they will not defog.

That sounds about right, but I'll be damned if I can actually notice any change (had the car for 4+ years!). I'll turn it back on & have another look, but I expect that compliance has interfered with it (I suspect that such a feature wouldn't be ADR compliant).

Suspected as much about the mirrors - the lack of convex is a real bugger. One day I'll get some JDM mirrors to fix the issue...

have you changed the batteries? do the lights come on or does it beep when you push them?

there is a switch, down near your right leg under the dash on the right

That was my first thought, no I haven't yet. The light comes on on the remote starter, no beep tho. Should probly change the batteries first and then start looking elsewhere.

The switch that you are talking sounds like it could be to heat up your wipers, you can tell by having a close look at your windscreen, if it does have the heating elements in the glass they are orange in colour and usually have three long strips where your wipers sit in the off mode. If the heating elements are in the black part of the glass (ceramic) it will be very hard to see but you should see them.

If you do happen to have the heated windscreen make sure you have glass cover on you insurance, if you think the price of a normal windscreen for a stagea is expensive wait till you find out how much a heated one is!!!!

Damn straight, thats why I just went with a standard windscreen. I mean when am I going to use it in QLD. But at least I still get to defrost my mirrors :P

was the car fitted with an immobiliser or alarm on compliance or after?

Far as I know there's no immobiliser, the bloke I bought it off hadn't fitted anything to it. And he got it from an importer, and the import ad says nothing about an immobiliser. Or an alarm for that matter.

Try pushing the start button twice with a 1 second gap in between.

No other remotes, only other remote is central locking on the key.

I did try pushing the start button several times, with various time lapses. But I will try again.

There is also a button in the middle, I'm not sure what it's supposed to do, when I push it the red light above it flashes intermitantly for a few seconds. If I push the start button whilst the light is flashing the light stays on without flashing for a few seconds.

I deduce that perhaps the middle switch is to arm the remote start. Would this be plausible?

However when I tried this it still did not work.

I also tried it with the car unlocked, and siting inside. Nada.

I did find the master switch, and I tried the remote start with it in both positions (up and down).

And still nothing.

I will try all these things again, just to double check.

But failing that, should I just give up?..........No there must be a way!

    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
