Some parts are the same as the 350Z, the newer 350Z runs the same VQ35HR engine, but there are plenty of other parts which are unique to the V36. Normal servicing should be fine. You can run into issues if you have faults that need repair.. even some Nissan dealers will refuse to plug in their consult tool to check error codes. But if you can find a good dealer or mechanic that is familiar with the skylines, you should be fine.

Running costs have been good for me, but I do my own servicing and mechanical work, fuel economy is good - 11.5 to 12.5L/100km in the city, average 8L/100km on the highway. The auto may be a little worse in the city. Insurance is about $750 per year, but that's mainly because I'm old (37) and have a clean accident and license history. I have heard figures of over $2k for young drivers or bad history.

It's apples and bananas to compare. Different horses for diff courses. So glad i didnt buy a Ford ( I would never buy a Holden/ just personal pref and ive had mates that service brand new commodores! ) I've had my 2005 man coupe for almost 5 years and have to say its an absolute gem. 10k services are just oil/ filter the 40 & 80 services are all your fluids.brakes I did at 70 but they prob could do 80+. There are many people who are happy to service them now ( in syd) and they cost same ( or less than most other cars).

My next main service will be 100k - that will be plugs which will cost a few hundred more but that's about it.

They are very smooth ,very reliable cars. I don't know too much in the 06 buy the earlier door locks ( mainly driver) on the earlier models go- ( prob not an issue with the 06! Same engine in the 350gt though.

Petrol wise you will average 8klm/L City or 8.5 to 9 combined city / highway. Open road they will better 10- 12 on average .( keep in mind they have 80l tank and light comes on at about. 65)

Now, looking at the likes of carsales.com.au and carpoint.com.au, there are a few V36 350GT's around in Sydney, namely at SportsAutoGroup and EVI. Anyone have any recommendations of good importers in Sydney? Also, one sedan which caught my eye is a 2007 model with only 17k on the clock (not sure if I'm allowed to link it here), is there a way of checking whether that is genuine mileage?

Some further concerns, how is it possible to check whether the car has had serious damage/re-work done whilst abroad, prior to import? Is checking the service history reliable? Is it worth getting it checked out by an independent mechanic?

And in relation to a good mechanic - who do you guys use, or anyone able to recommend anyone in Sydney who is able to service a imported Skyline?

Lastly, anyone heard of J-Spec Imports? Seem to have a wide range of imported vehicles, just wondering how good they are?

There are a few reputable importers around, have a search on the forums, there have been a few posts on the topic.

KM and vehicle history are very difficult to confirm with imports.. certainly get it checked by a good mechanic, ask them to check for accident history and signs the KM are incorrect.

Tell tail signs of fake KM are wear on brake disc rotors, wear on drivers seat, steering wheel, pedals, carpets, etc. at 17,000km there should be very little wear on any of these items. If the brake rotors are lipped on the edge, you can be sure the KM are wrong.

A good mechanic or panel beater will be able to check for major accident repairs.

That said, if it is a fresh import 17,000km is not unbelievable.. most people in the large japaneese cities don't drive on a daily basis...

Just ventured into the wonders that being a Nissan owner has to offer. Bought a V35 about 4 weeks ago and so far have not stopped grinning and that is with a standard car.

Car is a silver V35 6sp man with Brembos Bose and 18s

Non-premium I believe and no gps/dvd. I just cannot stand things that just don't work properly or feel çheaper than original'.

So will look forward to reading the forums and see what adventures I can get this car to take me to.

Lots of gutter rashes on these wheels from previous owner, planning to change them soon.

Future mods:

-Series 2 Tail Lights

-Black out chrome trims & grill

-New Wheels (No idea what the current ones are but their 19")

-BC Coils + Stillen Struts + Sways

-Stillen Z-tube kit

-Transgo shift kit + grounding wires

Those are what I have in mind at the moment, more to come

Nice, good your changing wheels cause for me black on black does not work. You might consider the clear indicator lenses - on black good bang for bucks !

Having trouble thinking of which mod I should do next.. Just changed to series 2 tail lights yesterday, so the series 1s are up for sale.

Friend told me to get the coilovers next then wheels?
