Sup everyone

I've been looking for a decent detailer because polishing hurts my widdle arms and i'm working fulltime so don't really have the kind of time to get the roadgrime / bore stains / PETROL (yes) residue off my car

i've found a good detailer that seems to charge what I personally consider honest prices

what i'd like to know is, is there much demand for you guys for a car detailer or do you guys just do this kinda crap yourselves?

i've been quoted $120 for

hi pressure wash n dry

1 stages of harsh cutback

3 stages of polish

claybaring any necessary spots

4 stages of wax applied over the couse of a few hours to let cure before re-application

final carnuba appication

this is all by hand with no rotary tools used. me personally, as i said, DON'T have time to do this kind of thing, i should probably get a fresh coat of paint, so i'm personally still tossing up between full detail or just save to get a fresh coat of paint...

but yeah, is there any interest to see if it's worth offering to get some sort of "group buy" do you think?

the guy is reluctant to do my car cos he says it's too painful on the arms etc but he'll do it cos of the money

....but he's running a car detailing business ffs, so stfu and gtfo to him lulz :)

I'm in the same situation, wouldn't mind paying some one to do it if its a reasonable price, so I'd like to hear what people have got to say or who they've used previously.

I don't understand why a guy would give you a quote for a job but say he wouldn't really want to do it, despite running a business that specialises in that.. maybe your car is that dirty haha

shit for $120 you cant go wrong

unless he polishes my car so hard it disapears and becomes invisible

i heard about that....

ok for those of you wondering where this guy is he's in morely galleria in the undercroft carpark near the travellator entrance...

he DOES want to do it i think he was just making idle chitchat to me...

but yeah $120 bux for full detail and he offers heaps of other services as well, he's gonna spend a whole day pampering my beauty

find out what order he does the detailing in... wash, polish, clay etc...

I do mine myself and its hard tedious work and for $120 I'd pay someone to do it... I'd say its probably worth alot more, but I'd like to see his work first.

you don't start polishing before you clay, if the car requires claying.

steps should be

- Thorough wash (including tyres wells, etc)

- Clay

- Thorough wash

- Polish (number of stages depends on condition of paint) *If you want to completely remove swirls/scratches, 3 Stage would prob be necessary

- Finish polish

- Another wash

- Wax/Sealant

I don't know of any wax that can be layered after only a few hours. They don't cure that fast, and IMO, it's just a waste of product and might giving you the impression you are getting multiple layers of wax. Not even the carnauba's/sealants used in combo with an accelerant like Zfx (Zaino), get curing times of a couple of hours.

Not all cars require a clay first, it totally depends on the condition of the paint.

I'm not sure how someone could do detailing as their chosen profession without using at least an RO (most pro's use a Rotary, in combo with Ro's or a machine that can operate in both modes, like some of the Festool machines)

if you want to do it properly, then yes, wash after clay. But depends how fussy you want to be, can just hit the polish straight away if you really want.

the QD/Lube used and clay do leave slight residue which can affect the polishing process. I would at least go for an alcohol wipe down, at least.

50:50 ethanol/water mix after the last polishing stage is handy if you can't be assed washing

On the topic of keeping your car clean.. can any one recommend a good car cover? Pretty sure I'll go check out this guys' work soon enough, but I want to try to preserve it for as long as possible. Not that keen on car covers that leave the car with a nice layer of scratches though after dirt gets in..

Maybe a giant enjo..
