Hey guys,

Have a Stock R32 GTR and in need of some help for some upgrades!

Can the Stock Standard Ceramic Wheel Turbo's be converted to a Steel Wheel Ball bearing turbo and if so how much am i looking at and where do i get it done?

Does a POWER FC Make Much difference to Power gains?

Or is it Just Easier to get a Bolt on upgrade like a set of GT2860R-7??

stock turbos are running 10psi if im not mistzken, they are more than capable of running 1 bar(14psi) without going boom.

power fc is a great upgrade for any performance car. it makes some difference even on a standard car. you have to remember that the factory tune is restrictive and set to comply to the japan regs, well worth the $$$

with regars to ur turbos, depends on your power target. if u chasing big targets, change them. if your chasing smaller ones leave them the standard ones til they go boom and then change. y waste the $$ on new turbs if u dont need to.

decide your power taget and then your decision on turbo selection becomes easier.

You can rebuild the standards with steel wheels and plain bearings for ~$1800. GCG can probably do it.

For ball bearing turbos, yes. That'll cost about $2500.

Either way you'll then need to pay for gaskets, and fitting if you get someone else to do it. What's the power goal? From memory of other posts the rebuilt stockers will probably go to ~270awkw, and the smaller of the 2860's around 330awkw. Spool time will be a tiny bit better on the stockers.

I think age needs to be taken into consideration. Newly rebuilt could probably run 1bar without to much issue, but turbos with over 100,000km (the maintenance interval) would be pretty risky.

But you might then need to cough up for an engine rebuild as well. There have been more that a few cases of exploding turbos sending nasty bits into the engine and trashing it. No idea of how often that happens tho, so I cant judge the risk.
