Removing Tailshaft- R33 Gtst

whats the best way to remove the tailshaft? im removing the engine so dont necessarily need to remove it from the whole car, just get the spline out of the box

Does the gearbox need to come out too? If not, disconnect the gearbox from the engine, and leave the gearbox in the car.

Otherwise, you will need a dummy shaft (basically just the spline of a tailshaft) to stick into the gearbox output. Or, drain the gearbox first.

you can buy a plug that will stop the gearbox draining itself too.

to remove it, undo the 4 bolts from the diff, the 2 bolts holding it up in the middle, and it will just slide out the back of the box.

you might be able to get away with just the 2 bolts in the middle, i vaguely remember taking my engine/box out, and the shaft was still attached to the diff.

so its got to be fully unbolted? dammit. i know it will leak, but i wasnt worried as i cant remove it yet remember

have since discovered it slides out as you pull the engine forward, just as i suspected.
