Does the gearbox need to come out too? If not, disconnect the gearbox from the engine, and leave the gearbox in the car.

Otherwise, you will need a dummy shaft (basically just the spline of a tailshaft) to stick into the gearbox output. Or, drain the gearbox first.

you can buy a plug that will stop the gearbox draining itself too.

to remove it, undo the 4 bolts from the diff, the 2 bolts holding it up in the middle, and it will just slide out the back of the box.

you might be able to get away with just the 2 bolts in the middle, i vaguely remember taking my engine/box out, and the shaft was still attached to the diff.
