Before some one says it, Yes i did search this first but can someone tell me how exactly an engine is compression tested and and give me a ruff idea on what sort of price i would be looking at for an rb25det.

also what sort of firgures are good. im guessing about 150 or higher or lower??

what does an engine with mean? With a dry test.

1 - 125

2 - 125

3 - 100

4 - 100

5 - 100

6 - 100

It seems really low if the standard is about 150 :S....I know i should be looking at it in terms of varience, rather than the numbers themselves but 25 is a pretty large difference between some of the cylinders.

yeah i wouldnt be too happy with those results. The actual figure doesnt really matter, its the varience between each cylinder that is a real indicator as long as each one doesnt read 0 haha.

a drop of 25psi is a tad too much in my books, how does the car run/idle? and whats the history of the engine ie kms etc?

the results show a tired engine, but not a broken one.

too much variance. drop some oil down the cylenders and see what happens

Or, you could spend about $80 (cheapies start at about $30 from supercheap etc, but I don't trust them myself) on a quality compression gauge, disconnect the coilpacks, pull the sparkplugs and do it yourself?

why would you pay more than the gauge costs to get someone else to do it?
