Well, I'm in the process of fitting on my side skirts, obviously its not going to be a quick bolt on job so, a small amount of cutting is required. i now have two options.

Option 1 - use my angle grinder that seems to have life of its own after reaching XXXXXXXrpm

or

Option 2 - finding a small saw of some sort thats nimble enough for me to actually cut in curves and wont eat up the whole thing if I make a mistake.

Anyone got any suggestions? Preferably something cheap and small.

I used the angle grinder on the front bar to trim...but hardly an accurate tool as its so hard to control.

I' might pop into bunnings tomorrow after work and see what they have. i have a hand held kind of saw but the blade was too wide and couldn't turn too well. I remember back when I was a kid I had a small saw with really thin blades that you cuold twist...and i'm hoping bunnings wil have the ones that look like a knife.

fingers cross.....damn i hate not having the right tools, takes 5 times as long.

angle grinder is best. It doesn't melt fibreglass i don't think. It didn't for me.

Becareful of the dust produced though and becareful behind the blade, you might cut somewhere else while your going across into a corner.

Like a dremel(sp?) type tool would work. Hand held and its got pretty small blades if I remember correctly.

+2 for a dremel.

Have a look in bunnings, You can get cheaper copies, coz the dremels are a bit pricey for what they are, just make sure it has the same size chuck as the real one, so you can get all the different tools that are available for it, and there are a crapload of them.

They are also invaluable for doing fiddly stuff like stereo installs etc etc etc

I wouldn't recommend those cheap dremel copies. My brother purchased one and its f**kin weak as. It can't cut through some thin materials. Best to go straight to the real thing and not to bother with the cheap ones.

found out I didn't need to cut much anyway....I bought a small $2 junior hack saw to trim bits and pieces off. Used a metal file to clean it up and sand paper to finish it off.

Now if only I could undo the mistake of hacking too much away...lol

all good..thanks all.

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
