my head light globes keep blowing up

this is the 3rd time it has happened in maybe 6 months

i must be doing something wrong ... i'm really careful puttin it in and not getting any grease on it .. guess i'll have to buy better ones ... or get stronger ones ...

That's weird....

Even the cheap ass ones should last longer than that

Have a quick check on the clips that hold them in. If their not tight enough, the globes will rattle around and blow quicker.

Don't touch the globe with your fingures at all, the oil from your fingers gets on the glass and causes them to overheat- Reduces there life span ten fold.

yeah i know .. oh well i just replaced them again ... but the old one overheated and got tooo big to take out LOL and broke and got stuck in there LOL .. how to take it out??

What colour are they after they have blown - is the glass white? if so maybe moisture in the lens is the problem - go see trent at autobarn mile end and show him the globes - philips are a little hexxy but are not affected by moisture as they are Quartz glass

yeah i've been there .. 60 bucks for phillips globes .. 100 for the bighter bluey illegal ones ..

Even narva at 9.99 should last 2 -3 yrs some globes cant handle the the harsh ride that some imports have and also check your alternator output - if its above 14.4v that will shorten their life

Often a slightly intermintant electrical problem can be enough unfortunately. If a wire is lose and grounds itself to the body then POP Can happen so randomly, and usually its a bitch to track down the source

But moisture has been the biggest problem in lightsI have seen with blown globes.

I have the same problem, my driver side head light has blown 3 times, killing about $120 bucks worth of globes!!

I have a cheapo yellowish one in at the moment and it hasn't blown. Maybe its the globes?

Ive noticed the contacts in the globe holders are sometimes ****ed and dont complete the circuit all the time, could be shorting? I replaced mine on sun and sprayed elec. cleaner in there and cleaned it out...so far so good

Look at the base of the globe and all adr compliant globes have a circle with E1 inside - these globes are the best quality - thats not to say the others arent good - they may be too bright (G4's) or multi-coloured - blue coated quartz lenses like narva optiblue and philips bluevision are street legal - the blue coating helps reduce UV transmission to protect polycarb lenses

Check your alternator's voltage output, could be too high. Although you'd most likely blown something else by now if the voltage was too high. hmm.

nah i think its more a case of grease on the globe cause the glass melted .. not the element breakin like that first one .. i was really really careful with this one so i'll let u guys know in a couple of months time if .. enrico .. how u going to fix it for me??

I dunno, I changed my globes and they havent stuffed up. Prolly the only thing still workin in my car
