My r33 was detonating so i bought a new fuel pump, same problem so i retarded the timing untill it stopped and now the car is gutless as and its running 10 psi boost. only mods are bov and cat back exhaust. has anyone had the same problem. what can it be? on my boost gauge when i start it up the most it goes to is -11hg. i thought it should be like -30 or something. i have been having this problem for months

mate

are you running a aftermarket or tunned rom what type of fuel are you using to much ignition timming will cause detonation also low octane fuel will do this, dirty injectors fuel filter all of the above jap tunned comp ecu's are renoud for to much ignition timing they run 106 -110 octane in japan and our fuel makes thier programmes lean out on higher boost.

you should set the base timing back to standard, 15deg. then go from there. generally when you talk about retarding the timing to stop pinging its done on an aftermarket ecu, and doesnt change the base timing at all.

what fuel are you using? when was the fuel filter changed.

do you have a pod? is it sucking in hot engine air?

what spark plugs are you running and at what gap?
