Christmas Sprint Event Wanneroo December 2nd

That's gonna piss you off! How did you go on the track?

Went ok. I just need some new rubber as the old stuff had been heat cycled too many times and had lots its edge. That & a new diff would do wonders. It is all good fun in any case & its not for sheep stations.

This should give everyone an idea of the sorts of cars that turn up - basically anything you can think of!

The thing that sh!ts me to tears is that another half a second would be about, oh 5th. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. But doable, maybe. Unfortunately by the time I find half a second so will everyone else.

I was cleaning up in the shed last night thinking that flushing $50 notes down the dunny may be a cheaper hobby. See the photos for dead brake rotors collection.

Anyway, wait till they get a load of this....

Well I thought I was going quick the other night when I ran 1:08, so your doing very well for a street car.

What brake setup are you currently running, as I've destroyed my rotors and calipers

Well yes & no. My lap time isn't special. It was mostly done on hp & brakes. Certainly not traction or grip. Hopefully fresh rubber will bring a gain. I had bulk wheel spin on every corner exit. Not productive in any sense.

Brakes: Standard R32 callipers. DBA rear rotors (till they crack, again). Now project Mu front rotors. Ferodo DS2500 pads & motul rbf600 fluid. But I need an upgrade.

Ah, welcome to a world of pain. And expense.

Do I have an answer, well in short no.

The biggest rotor you will reasonably jam in under a 17" rim is 13.5" - 343 in metric speak. But that is dependent on what sort of rim you have. Some will fit, some won't. If it is a Volk/Rays/Nismo/SSR/Enkei you should be ok. Otherwise, probably not.

If you can't fit anything larger than 324 probably just go with Brembos from a 33 R. Do the braided line, good pads, fluid, rotors & remove the stone guards. That will get you 1.1 gees of brakes which is good enough to lock wheels.

Haha, I've been in a world of pain and expense since I bought the Skyline

I have Enkei RPF1's, so hopefully I can fit the 343mm rotors. I already have braided brake lines, cut off the stone guards, running Motul RBF600, and had decent pads.

What do you think of the F40/F50 Brembo's ?

Good question.

The only difference between them is piston sizes - with the F50 being larger than the F40. Pad size is considerably larger than the Brembos Nissan fitted to the GT-R's.

I have been tempted to try & find some F40's but they are hard to come by. Biot in Japan no longer appears to list them, instead replacing them with something called a Modena (F360?) calliper. Not sure how the two compare.

I am tempted to suggest maybe finding a second hand monobloc Brembo instead. Don't know from where although there are a couple of GT-R's running them locally.

I don't think I would ever stump up the requisite to buy new Brembo product locally as the pricing is pretty fearsome. If I wanted to spend that kind of coin I would probably go for some AP stuff.

Who do you deal with locally - Perth Brakes?

To be honest I don't deal with anyone locally, considering Race Brakes Perth, seeing as they have a good reputation over east.

Thinking of using the SBC carbon/cermic brake pads. If I can find some F40/F50 calipers then might grab them, if not might plunge into 6pot Alcons.

You did better than you think Richard, the track was very slow on sunday,Sponsors day was the day before and the same cars were much faster.

Ring me and ill tell you a good option for your brakes.Steve Myburge and I have it now and its very good value.

How good is Mike Joss behind a steering wheel?Amazing driver.

Not sure why the track was so slow. It had little grip & strangely absolutely no traction for anyone.

I talked to Steve about his brakes on Sunday so I understand what he has got. Unfortunately I need to buy me some new tyres first. Atleast our bullsh!t carry on on the pit exit gave John Hurney a laugh. Something you don't see enough of.

Yes Mike is a good steerer. As are quite a number of the blokes doing the speedeventseries. The competition is pretty fierce. Drop half a second & you are in the midfield.....

We undecided on brakes for the new 26dett powered 31 , 6 or 4 mmmmm :(

Im happy with my current brake package .. 50 laps of collie in 1 day n no issues , did classic challenge no issues and 2 drivers in Dutton no issues ... NOT 1 cracked rotor or any sign of fade

The track was much faster on Saturday for the sponsors day,Strange.

Your car looked to have a bit of mid corner understeer,Did you find that or was I seeing things?May have just been the day but i can see 65s for you soon.

You are dead right. It had more than a bit. But then again the car will understeer when I try & be a hero and attempt to carry too much speed across the apex - so it was as much my fault as the car. It needs a new rear diff to stop the inside rear from bagging up, particularly on the left/right transition going up & over the hill.

Mid 66's (my best effort) & 65's are a different world, but worth aspiring to none the less.

    • Reasonably hard, although I haven't run it with the new Endless setup yet. The old brakes were F50's on 335mm rotors and the car did a 1:40.6 at Phillip Island which is a reasonable time, I'm seeing high 600s on the temperature paint. A guy I know ran the Endless fluid at WTAC without issues and he was doing 1:33's I think (Evo) with a 355/332 setup. I don't get out to the track as much as I'd like but we put the car on the hoist and spanner check every bolt and re-paint mark everything, bleed the brakes, change the fuel, check the coolant system and re-bleed blah blah blah before every event. Motorsport is expensive, RB's are expensive so a couple of hours before an event is time well spent. It's also a net time saving because if you can keep your RB from self destructing it saves you time in the long term!
    • Welcome Alice......hope you have a bit more luck from here on! What was done in the build?
    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
