meggala, what do you have to do to the block to strengthen it? The idea of an RB30 bottom end on a RB26 head really appeals to me, so this has made me a little concerned.

Have you got any idea what are the VL boys doing to protect their engines when they pull off those 400 - 500rwkw numbers?

Cheers,

Michael

ya 20 min out...Bean town that right, just doing research now for the project when i get money i am going to do it i love this thought right here RB30DETT in a S13 and dont tell me i cant because there a company that can help, RB26DETT has been done in a S13 the only difference is that the RB30 block is alittle higher:)

i have never seen a skyline in boston before also are you in anywhere with X-Crew?

93RPS13, I'm an Aussie living in Boston. My Skyline is at home collecting dust. If I could have brought it over I would have, but it's damn near impossible to get anything into this country.

I have to say the thought of a RB30DETT sounds pretty damn cool. I'd do that to my car if I had the cash. I've seen some pics of an RB26DETT in a 180SX body and the bonnet couldn't close. I'd say you'll have some slight issues with the RB30, but nothing that can't be worked around. It will have to be the fastest S13 in MA once you're done though. Actually, I haven't seen any decent cars around here. What's the deal with the car scene over here? Who's this X-Crew you mentioned? I'm missing my car so I'd like to see what the local cars are like. I'm in Brookline btw.

Cheers,

Michael

brookline damn the rich part of town, i seen a really nice blue S14 with S15 front end conversion and the engine was a KA-T, X-Crew is like a car club aka Boston Imports, also if you get this in time there is a car show today, Hot Imports Night, in dorchester, Bay side expo center this is where is at, i cant go because i have to save my money for the engine and other stuff

Damn, I can't believe I missed this post. I could have gone to the show.

It's not bad here in Brookline, but there's no way I'd be staying here if I was paying the rent. It's absolutely ridiculous. I can't imagine what it would be like in the Back Bay area or downtown.

Oh, and a free bump for your flywheel question :)

I found this in a doc file from the US gov. There's a heap of info in it. You can get it here:

Anyway, here's the bit that interested me -

Nonresidents may import an automobile or motorcycle and its usual equipment free of duty for a temporary stay to take part in races or other specific purposes. However, prior written approval from the EPA is required and such approval is granted only to those racing vehicles that EPA deems not capable of safe or practical use on streets and highways. If the contests are for other than money purposes, the vehicle may be admitted for 90 days without formal entry or bond if the Customs officer is satisfied as to the importer’s identify and good faith. The vehicle becomes subject to forfeiture if it is not exported or if a bond is not given within 90 days of its importation. Prior written approval must be obtained from DOT. A vehicle may be temporarily imported for testing, demonstration, or racing purposes. A vehicle may be permanently imported for show or display. Written approval from DOT is required and should be obtained before the vehicle is exported from the foreign country to the U.S. Information on how to import a vehicle under show or display is available at DOT’s NHTSA Web site at www.NHTSA.dot.gov/cars/rules/import. A vehicle permanently imported for show and display must comply with all U.S. emission requirements as well, and in general must be imported through an EPA-authorized ICI for modification and testing. EPA will not allow the vehicle to be released to its owner until ICI work is complete.

I suppose I could just call it a show car and that would work. That could even be true considering the rarity of Skylines here.

EDIT: I read more about it, and there's pretty well no chance it would qualify as a show car. Reasons are here http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import...osd05-2003.html

    • Took it for a drive to do some logs, I’m pretty sure my voltage issues and electrical noise issues are gone, I’ve sent a log to Adam and am waiting to hear back with confirmation  att.K23U9eHyiEJxixH6y1__GQfuqK0EgIoDgQFTs9G8x_w.mp4   idle video from that day just because
    • Went looking at mine, reading off the tyre, presumably these are 1st week of 2003. Still hold air (I haven't had to pump them up in over 12 months!)     I couldn't quickly find the date on the front tyres, they were fitted around 2008 to the rims, so probably not quite as old, but they have a lot more dry rot cracks in them. Still hold air.
    • I am now intrigued to go check the dates on the tyres on my Skyline... We need a game of who has the oldest tyre still holding a car up, and successfully holding air (for longer than a 2 weeks I feel is successful air holding).   I feel your tyres may be beating mine
    • Ok, still waiting for a date to get the cams installed on the MX5, why so long, because MX5 Mania has received a few new sets of different cams with different specs for the MZR and are currently trialling them, and working out what is best for 2.5 "powers" with stock internals, in the end if I go bigger than the Kelford stage 1 cams I'll need to look at the valve springs  Hopefully I'll get the news on them next week As for the boot of the car getting fixed, I hopefully pick it up early next week, I was sweating on picking it up yesterday but, meh, it was not to be, so ne weekend cruising for me
    • Ok got some old tyres for you guys...my car has been sitting around un-driven for about 6 years now. I had it on the original rims with the shitty compliance tyres it got it with back in 2006, which were manufactured in 2004... Sidewalls eventually rotted and split open, obviously no air in them and the rims were holding the car up. Just swapped them with some 17" Work rims and tyres which are probably 10+ years old too but at least holding air
