Blue32
what 4wd controler did you get Got the Ruzic Engineering one - looking forward to the logging ability via laptop and also the flexibility in modifying the torque application to suit the cars handling and my driving style. mr_rbman
Awesome Ash! Feel like giving me a drive? haha, if nothing goes wrong. I've installed my race seat, haven't got an oil cooler yet, i'm still on stock brakes that haven't been changed in a while but i have done a coolant and oil change recently atleast. i tried looking on the malalla.com site but it doesn't seem to be working. As its my first one i'm not entirely sure what to do. I think i've read it starts at 10 and goes til 5, and scrutineering is from 8-10. Will it matter if i'm a bit late to scrutineering as i reckon it will take me close to two hours from my house towing. What are some things i should take? I've got things like sockets, spanners, screwdrivers, jacks etc but is there anything else i may not be thinking of? salad
There's no scrutineering for practise days, so dont worry about that. Hours are 10-4:30, 4 groups with 6x15min sessions each and a 30min lunch break. Driving starts at 10, but before you do that, you have to go to the office (next to the scrutineering bay) and pay. First timers also have to have a chat with Clem (track owner), so he can run through the do's and dont's of being on the track. I'd try get there at about 9-9:30. Like I said in the other thread, take some spare brake pads, or get some better ones first. If you drive anything like I did on my first time out there, you'll have to stop the day halfway because you've run out of brakes... Try get some TWR Lucas pads (from ABS stores), they're $55 and they deal with the heat pretty well, fairly nice bite too. Maybe get 2 sets of them as I've found that although they work pretty well, they still wore very quickly for me (for track driving anyway). Also, do 1 warm up lap as soon as you get out there, for tyres, brakes, etc and then go for your flying laps. I wouldn't go for anymore than 2 flying laps without an oil cooler, then do a slowish cooldown lap, this lets everything cool down, very important for your brakes and tyres too if you're on average pads and street tyres. Then go flying laps again, etc. One of the marshalls will signal everyone in at the end of the session on the pit straight (between turn 2 and turn 3), so then go for your cool down lap and come in. Nightcrawler
yep like sald said only do 2 hot laps at a time, and you may need 2-3 cool down laps inbetween. I physically melted my tyres when I took the S15 out there - they had gone molten and looked quite unbelievable. Tyres were rooted afterwards - not from wear, but from the heat/melting. I actually did a whole day on my oem Nissan S15 brake pads (which were already quite old) and still drove on them for many thousands of km later. But my brother-in-law in his R33 had to call Steve from Manta half way through the day, who actually drove out to Lala with new brake pads and fitted them for him! mr_rbman
well i had a ball and am now addicted. Finished up with a best time of 1.31 (street tires and stock brakes) not sure if thats any good but a few people i spoke to on the day said it wasn't bad for my first time out there. My brakes were fine and didn't get any brake fade and still had some meat left on the pads at the end of the day. Tires still have a bit of tread left and didn't chew up like i'd heard would happen. I'll wait a couple of months now til the next one and go out with a few people from here (don't be soft peoples), hopefully by then i'll have my brakes, oil cooler and slicks. Think my temp reached a max of 112degrees which isn't too bad. Oh and the costs have gone up too! $100 for the day and $25 for the day cams licence but it was still well worth it. Good to meet you 9krpm! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/193130-sau-sa-tracksocial-day/page/3/#findComment-3578625 Share on other sites
kralster
^^^^ There is nothing better than a track day. If you have a sports car you'd be stupid to never do one. I'm hoping to do go to phillip island later this year with my bike to do a day of superbike school to learn how to corner and ride correctly. Should be awesome fun. salad
That's not too bad Ash. How did you find getting power down out of the back hairpin (turn 5) and the top of the Ss (turn 7)? How did you find getting power down out of the back hairpin (turn 5) and the top of the Ss (turn 7)? not too bad at all actually, i think having the big turbo with the motor i have really suits mallala. the torque seems to put me through the corner nicely and then the boost comes on just when i'm out causing very little slideage.
