On a GTT R34 tonight ive been thrashing around abit on 11 psi boost with everything else stock. One stage at high revs around 5500rpm ive heard like "sand hitting my car" or "something rattling" and it was loud enough for me to hear it but wasn't as loud as ive expected if it was pinging. How loud is pinging supposed to be?

Also when i stepped on it full throttle to see if i hear it again, i couldn't hear anything like that so i wanted to know if once my car starts to ping then should it keep pinging everytime i step on full throttle?

Thanks in advanced guys.

Once your motor is hot + hot weather + heatsoaked intercooler, pinging is more likely to occur. If you have thrashed it a bit, it will be likely to ping then because its hot. Doesnt mean its going to ping every time you step on the throttle from now on. Bigger intercooler will help stop it from happening on hot days. + higher octane fuel also helps.

I was using high octane fuel all the time. Also i thought GTT bloody intercooler can take up to 200kwrw and it was only 11 psi boost. It was at night time so it ain't so hot either, i just don't know whether it was the pebbles on the road or if it is coming from the engine itself.

Ive been told also that 'too little petrol' could cause pinging under load.

Well my petrol was on the empty line but regardless ive still gave full throttle up hill right before the petrol station, could this be a reason why it pinged as it wasn't such a hot weather during the night time?
