I've been thinking of buying a skyline and am considering either an R32 GTR or R34GTT as I am not that keen on the R33 shape.

What I don’t understand is why are R33 GTR V specs so cheap compared to R32 and R34 GTRs?

Also how would an R34GTT do for occasional track days, are they to heavy?

What do you mean R33 GTRs are so cheap compared to R32 GTRs? They're more expensive... :angry: Make sure you look for a good one, like you can get R32 GTRs for $15k, you can get R33 GTRS for $23k, I wouldn't go near them though...

If you're just doing track days, I'd stay with your S15 mate. If you want a car that's awesome to cruise in / drive everyday, and perform well at the track.... well that's when it gets a bit different :P

It seems there are plenty of R33 GTRs even V specs in the low 20K compared to R34 which are 60K to 100K plus. Even a good R34 GTT seems to be in the mid to high 20K.

Most R33 GTRs start at around $26-27k+, and that's for a 1995 one... sure there's a few exceptions, but as Blitz said, be careful :angry: I just did a search on carsales and it said the same price range.... in NSW anyway.

R34s always fetch a higher premium because they are younger and until soon, they've still been the most recent model. I know of a few guys that have brought in R34 GTRs for $45k recently :P

If you want some hefty performance i'll add that there's a big difference between a GTR and GTT/GTST. So you'd be getting a great performer with an R34 GTT but it'd be shot when compared to any GTR.

Either settle for something good and keep your car or get a GTT, or fork out the money and be blown away and forever in love with a GTR :wave:

Thought I would raise this one from the dead.

I've noticed r33 gtr's are dipping into the high teens in price but it seems the r32 gtr is getting more expensive.

After trawling around the net and seeing some nice stockish examples of r33's in the high teen and low twenty area I can't understand why someone would buy an older r32 in the same price range or higher.

I'm just after opinions on why there seems to be this trend whether it's collectability, preferred styling or are people just asking too much money for the r32 gtr?

If your after a daily driver then don't get a GTR unless your willing to visit the ATM on a more regular basis. An R34 GT-ST is a great option but the neo motor lacks the reliability of its predecessor in the 33's. It all comes down to how much your planning on modifying the car too.

Interesting post, was just thinking the same thing.
Am looking for a Skyline now (no, not a P plater) and am tossing up between the 33 GT-R or a 34 GT-T.
How are the GT-Rs like as a daily? Rubbish aircon? Am more tempted by the 34 to be honest, but I've always wanted a GT-R.

Might keep a 34 GT-R as my midlife crisis car :whistling:

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.

However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
