Bad Mechanic? Should I Take This Further?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

My girlfriend took her FTO in for a RWC, guy pinged her for all kinds of ridiculous stuff.

Regardless, we asked for him to fix it all as we are busy and don't have the time to sort it out ourselves.

I drove the car and it shakes very badly on the freeway. As part of the RWC they put new tyres and repaired the inner driveshaft boot.

I got my girlfriend to call them this morning about this and ask if they balanced the wheels and did an alignment. They didn't do either.

They agreed to do the balancing (their excuse was the machine wasn't working), then they argued that the alignment was not part of the repair.

I would have thought since DRIVESHAFT WAS REMOVED you would have to do one? This is the case in NZ (just moved over recently), just wanted to confirm before I call up and blast the guy....

Cheers,

Aaron.

wheel shaking = no balance, and if they changed the tyres you deff need a wheel balance. Its only $30 why the hell did the mechanic cheap out on that

One intake mod is also legal, so he shouldnt have told you to change to airbox.

Report him to vicroads for his non-roadworthy fix, also if he signed the roadworthy and its not in rwc he will lose his license.

Yep they have agreed to let the new owners go and get the wheel balanced and forward them the bill.

What about a wheel alignment? Should they have done one after the doing the driveshaft?

The car has it's RWC and is sold already but I just wanna make sure the new owners get what they paid for as the car was driving very well before we took it in.

think its the VACC you report dodgy pricks too, my sis bought a bmw from a dealer that had license to do the rwc's himself. few things were not quite right on the car that should have most definetly been fixed for rwc. soon as i went in and said i would report him to vacc if it wasent fixed he booked car in, got car back and all was good!

when you sort it, PM me the place and I will also give you details of where to take your FTO for service in Vic.

or go to FTOA web site, www.ftoaustralia.com

cheers.

Good thing I checked first heh. Thanks for the replies, anyways it all seems sorted now and new owners are happy

nah alignment isnt necessary for the procedure you outlined, but if they told you they did and charged you for it that is another story.

    • This isn't for lotsa powers, and time and effort isn't even a thing I'm concerned about The whole reason is "Just because fun", and "Just because fun" is what I do And whilst there are other kits, with better and more modern turbos (Rev9 use the same Kraken manifold I believe.....EDIT... nope, the Kraken is a cast jobbie, the REv9 uses welded up stainless, plus $8000 AUD before shipping, installation and tuning) Where else in Sydney can I do a drive in drive out with the after sales support that MX5 Mania give My Turbo 86 made around 200kwatw on a AVO turbo kit that Pulse fitted, and it was over 100kg heavier than the MX5, but it was a blast to drive around the streets, until I crashed it.....DOOH, so somewhere around 200 ish level and some whooshy noises and I'll be happy driving to work, the shops, or heading into the country with Jackie for Devonshire tea So, thanks Dose for your info, it sounds like a 0.64 will be fine for what I'm after👍 The only real racing I do nowadays is to the toilet

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
