Timing Question

I read alot of stuff on the forum about adjusting timing on the RB20DET. Exactly how do you do this?

firstly get a hold of a timing light, and hook it onto the loom sticking out the back of the coil pack cover. shine it down the front of the engine and line it up with the timing marks on the crank pulley housing. it starts at 0 and goes up in 5 degree increments.

standard timing is supposed to be 15 degrees (BTDC) so then take a 10mm wratchet and undo the CAS bolts and knock the CAS anti clockwise a few mm's and then tighten up and recheck using the timing light.

anti clockwise = advance

clockwise = retard

then take it for a spin on the road listening very carefully for pinging (however if u set it to 12-15 degrees it should be fine) if it pings retard it a little and there u go - timing adjusted.

Or if you dont have a timing light, you can just adjust it by ear, but have to be extra careful for pinging. As a rough guage, the crank angle sensor is normally set in the middle of its slots, at least on every RB20 i've seen .
