If the goal is mid 11's then you won't really need any more than 280rwkw on a tune that is focused on a wide power band. On a stock motor the less rpm / boost and power you need to throw it at the better, it just makes the odds of the un thinkable that much lower. Think of it as more peice of mind when you ring it's neck, makes things more fun.

Lets not forget good tyres.

* The smaller frame SS/ -7's would do the job being capable of over 300rwkw.

* A set of tomei cams, adjustable cam gear. Some extra dyno time to set cam timing to bring the power curve down. Lop off the top end peak as a trade for mid range.

* Full exhaust

Then I would be spending a few bucks on response mods, these are not 'power gaining' although these increase accelleration;

* lightweight rims

* lightweight flywheel /clutch assembly

* Carbonfibre tail shaft

* Lightweight ATI/Ross balancer

* Electric thermo fan

* Greddy pully kit

no need to waste money on thermos, and lighter pulleys for tiny power gains... he is just after a qik daily street car not a race car.

Those mods on the plan should see him into the mid 11's easily.

qikgtr how many kw did your car have when you went to the drags the other day ?

I'm not 100% sure on wheather or not the KW figure the car had been sold to me with was AWKW or RWKW, it was stated that it had 206AWKW, but the shop that did the tuning has a RWD dyno only, so I'm not sure anymore...my guess would be that it is AWKW because 206RWKW would equate to 180ishRWKW and it would have more than that I'm sure.

Rev210, thanks for the input, got the clutch and lightweight rims already, certainly agree with you that I don't want to push the motor beyond what it needs to be pushed to gain me my 11....so if I only need 280 or so KW then so be it, but I am lead to believe I need at least 300 for mid 11s. I'm not going to rape the engine if I don't need to, but I also agree that the easier the engine makes the power and on lesser boost the better!

Glenn, you've got it pretty much right with what I want and I'll follow your recommendations for changing pumps etc too as I want to replace everything that may need replacing on a 10yr old car for safety sake.....not after things like CF tailshafts though :rofl:

Rev's guide is basically what I said in my initial list anyway, plus a fuel system upgrade of course! I'll stay away from some of the stuff on his added list though.

I don't want a mountain of power, I guess the 330-350 guide was a bit unnecessary, I'm more after a time than a power figure(as a power figure is dyno dependant anyway).....so if a milder setup on 16-18psi will get me an 11....then the safer and lower the pressure on the motor, the better!

I think I can drive, but most people probably think they can, depends what you define by "can drive" I suppose?!?!?

But a good set of semi's on some stockos will be a good idea....or even on my Volks!

They aren't a waste of money actually.

You basically gain no power at all with intertia reduction, you do gain very substancial accelleration however and in the case of lightweight rims better handling and stopping abillity.

If you want to inform yourself better about lightwieght tailshafts for GTR's , particularly for drag racing (as mr centre bearing gets quite upset on launches), then there are a few guys on the forum who can clue you in on whether they are a waste of money. Justinfox has one from memory.

If money is your hang up (better sell your GTR if it is - joke) just for you there is a cheap'o option with the single peice tailshaft offered by UAS, $495 exchange and drops 5.5kg's off the weight.

The response gained by dropping the weight from these items makes the car more enjoyable to drive and doesn't add to wear like extra horsepower so it's hardly a waste on a road car.

    • Surely the merged entity will be called "Honda" given the relative company values. I've got to be honest, I don't understand how merging 2 companies that missed EVs (despite Nissan making the first mass produced one) will solve their problems
    • If you haven't bought the ECU yet, I would strongly consider buying a modern ECU. Yes it is very easy to setup and tune, however it is lacking many of the features of a modern ECU. The pro plug in is something like 10 or 12 years old now? Can't remember exactly but it is very dated now. In that time the Elite was released and now we have the Nexus platform.  I would strongly consider not buying the ECU that is 3 generations old now (especially as it isn't a cheap ECU!).

    • Sorry I should have been more clear with the previous post.  The block is a sanding block - picture something like this https://motorguard.com/product/motor-guard-bgr161-bgr16-1-rigid-psa-sanding-block-2-5-8-x-16/ The guide coat is the paint It's two separate things I was talking about, there is no "block guide coat". 
    • Maybe more accurately, you aren't just dulling the existing paint, you are giving the new paint something to 'grab on to'. By sanding the existing paint, you're creating a bunch of pores for the new paint to hook on to.  You can lay new paint over existing paint without sanding it, might last a year or two then sad times. The paint will peal/flake off in huge chunks. By sanding it, the new paint is able to hang onto it and won't flake off.  Depends on the primer you are using. When you buy your paint, as the paint supplier what grit of sand paper to use before you lay down the primer.  Use whatever you like as a guide coat. Pick a colour that really stands out in contrast to the paint. So say your sanding/painting a currently white car, using a black guide coat would work well. You very lightly lay the black guide coat down, then as you sand the car with the large block, all the high spots and low spots will stand out as the black paint is sanded off (or isn't sanded off).  When you buy your paint, hit up your supplier for recommendations for what paint to use for a guide coat if you're unsure what would work well with your setup.
