Hey guys just wondering if i can get your thoughts , Last night i was going for a drive To brighton le Sands , Close to Bay st i got pulled over by a police officer, gave me the random breath test was fine there but he then told me to follow him to the EPA Station.

I Firstly Got a RTA Defect Notice, I have to go to the RTA In Botany For a full inspection , Thats right not just someone who can clear it for me The real thing the RTA

1/ Insufficeint Ground Clearance , I dont understand my Car is more then 100mm off the ground My front lip isnt so i will remove it for the inspection

2/ High Mount Stop Lamp missing , I Have already put that in i borrowed one off a friend .

3/ I have to take me Engineers Certificate for all My modifications except filters

My question is how harsh are these Guys I have pretty Much fixed Up Everything Well there really wasnt much, i Have a half roll cage in the car and a racing bucket seat, As long as i have my engineers Papers for this kind of stuff will i be ok?

I then have to get a emission test thankfully not at the rta but at a workshop of some kind either in granville or in cambeltown

Only other thing was my filters i have to get them Covered , if i cover them with a Aluminoum Box of sort will they clear it ? Or would i have to get a standard Box?

My car is too Loud i have put the stock exsaught Back on so that is not a issue. My decible reading Hit 120 which is way over the 90 which it normally is.

Guys can anyone give me there thoughts, anyone been through this process anything i need to look out for ?

Thanx guys..

Hey buddy, i had a similar problem , in the same area, except i was parked and having dinner when my sunday got jacked.

In regards to the seat and cage, if they're engineered i cant see a problem there. I have heard there pretty strict on the full inspection though, my mate had to go back because he didn't have the baby seat hooks on the rear shelf after his system install.(nothing some glue didn't temporarily fix)

the exhaust may be a problem, if you have the stock back on should be fine, make sure your cat is ok as well. but make sure you remove any after market ecu or pfc you might have, as these will cause you to fail the emmisions test( if not detuned), which measures co2 and so on not just noise. I spent the night before detuning my car at my mates shop so it passed on his emmisions machine, but you have to take it to the nominated shops.

They might say something if you have replaced the intercooler without engineers as that affects emmisions as well.(mine was engineered)

the air box will have to be standard, unless its engineered. i can almost guarantee you will not pass no matter how good your own box turns out, as they take photos then send it to EPA who assess it.

I had the same drama except i was given a part inspection for the RTA defects which my mate cleared for me, but i did have to go to Granville, Archers motors for the EPA issue. i dealt with the owner there , hes a good bloke and its a mechanical workshop not just an EPA station so they're not di**heads like some other places. I refit the standard box, i was expecting to have to do an emmisions test, i kept my apexi exhaust on as i couldnt find a stocky in time. turns out i didnt need emmisions as i just passed the noise test on the sunday night and i had engineers certificate for the exhaust and emmisions.

(However he spent a good half hour on the phone with the EPA to make sure the emmisions test was cleared, as any other person would have done the test straight away)

HeyThanx mate,

In regards Yes i have the roll cage engineered and the intercooler , plenum , Bucket Seat , Wheels , ETC.

I am lucky to have a neighbour who does exsaugts so he put my one back to stock. there was a couple of few little thingz i fixed up missing bolts on the cage had to get them tightened and just a couple of other little things.. im going to book the car in to the rta on tuesday hope all is well . Im either going to Silverwater or Wetherill Park. i got out of going to botany as ive heard there very very very Bad there.....

I will be going to archer motors in ganville and i have heard that he is very good too....

One thing i dont understand is the down tuning ? Wouldnt it be easier if i just turned off my boost controller and left it on standard boost .... Or should i be taking it off for the Rta ?? Its been a bit of a headache for me...

you could be shifty and get an extra cat or 2 welded into your exhaust, or before you head down throw some (heaps of) steel wool before your cat to help with the emissions, otherwise you'll need to think about booking in for an emissions tune somewhere. i know Guilt-Toy does this but i think he's in newcastle :P

as long as the pods are enclosed and the cover looks like its sealing properly then you wont have any dramas with that.

whats going to totally freak you out is they're going to take your car behind closed doors to do the inspection and all of the emissions testing. i heard it f**ks with you a bit :(

goodluck!

Hey Joe,

I got away with the rta inspection thank god . He told me take it to a blue slip guy And let him call me from there ill authorise it so thats taken care of .

In terms of emmision test i can take it to a nominated workshop the guy in granville. I have put me exsaust totally back to stock sounds like a corolla now ...... Hid all the gauges under the steering wheel in the compartment Put the boost down to 10PSI Standard . Ive got all the engineers Papers as well For Cage, Intercooler, Aftermakret throttle , wheels, plenum ETC ..... So hopefull all goes well..

What i dont understand is why do i need to do downtuning for emiisions test . Ive put the Boost back down to 10PSI and exsaust is as standard as it gets Very very very Quiet ???

theres a few things that will effect it. the turbos you have on your car are bigger than standard rb26 turbos arent they?

10psi on your turbos equals to more flow (=more air, which means more fuel) than 10psi on the standard turbos so turning down the boost even more is your only option if you dont want to get your car detuned.

its either that, or throw a bunch of steel wool into the exhaust before the cat :domokun:

have a read through this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Em...ed-t155081.html

i think it would explain whats involved better than i could :(

Yes joe you make a point about that i did speak to the exsaust guy he did say to me the car should b fine . The exsaust he put on it now looks alot smaller then a standard GTR One . i guess ill see how the results go if i need to change anything i will if it fails..

i read the other post.. Similar Mods. Hes got Bigger Turbos .. Ive only got N1's i Actually thought there same size as Standard turbos just better built am i wrong there ???

I also read in one post if your fail first emiision test they cancel your rego ?? I think another difference is im not doing this emiisions test at the rta but at a workshop do i have a advantage in this case..

Thanx for all the help joe, guys./. :(

    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
