they remove the HID bulb and ballast, and replace with standard bulb.

Find yourself a cheap aftermarket set and hook up HID again!

so you mean there is no difference between normal headlight unit and xenon head light unit other than removed original ballast and HID bulb?

so if i buy aftermarket HID kit and install onto my headlights it wont glare as much as r33 which they dont have xenon headlight houseing.????

cheers

Your headlight probably had HID globes in them from factory (that's why you've got the 'xenon' printed), but there's a high chance that the compliance company took them out and put halogen globes in.

To check whether or not you've got HID globe installed at the moment, check around the headlight to see if there's a ballast mounted somewhere. Or you can just switch on your headlights and see if they come on straight away or not. If they come straight on to the normal colour, they're halogen, but if they look like they 'power up' in the first 2 secs, then it's probably HID's.

Make sure the globes are cold when you test this way.

Hope that made some sense.

f**k, why didn't I think of this before....

Just take your existing globes out, if they look like normal halogen globes, they're halogen, but if they look like a tube with a little 'bulge' in the middle, they're HID.

Post up a pick if you're not sure.

lol thanks adam!!

so there is no difference between normal halogen headlight house and HID headlight house?

i know i have normal harlogen light bulb cz i changed light bulb last time myself...

as long as there is no differnce between those two light housing... that means i can possibly put HID kit onto my

headlight right????

SO NON-XENON HEADLIGHT UNIT AND XENON HEADLIGHT UNIT ARE THE SAME UNIT BUT XENON HEADLIGHT UNIT HAS BALLAST INSTALLED AND NON-XENON HAS NO BALLAST.. AM I RIGHT?

AND IF IM RIGHT there is no such things as OEM xenon r34 headlight unit right?

all head light units are same but the fact that ballast is in it or not...

than why people selling oem xenon headlight unit and why people buy that?

why dont they just buy HID kit and install them??????????

No, no umm, I think there would be some 34 headlight housings which only came with halogen globes, but if your headlight has the 'xenon' printed, it had HID's installed back in Japan, but the compliance people took them out because they're illegal on Australian roads.

If you've got the 'xenon' printed and you plan on putting HID's back in, you can, you just have to make sure you get the genuine HID system that came with the 34's. You can't throw those cheap HID kits in for example.

Headlight housings which came with HID's will have a different reflector design to those without HID. The two globes produce light in a different position. If 34's ever came with halogens from factory, there will be two different types of housings on the market.

As long as you get globes that are the same as the genuine ones I don't see a problem. For example, if you're headlight originally took D2S globes, you must get D2S globes for your headlights to perform at their best, but that's a bit obvious, I didn't have to explain that.

Good luck, I hope you find a set of globes and ballast at a good price.

There are 2 TYPES of FACTORY headlight 'assembly'. One if factory halogen, one is factory Xenon.

Xenon is defined by the embossed 'Xenon' on the front/horizontal part of the assembly. The two assemblies in general look quite different.

The Xenon reflectors are designed for a D2R globe light pattern ONLY. In other words, an H1 Xenon globe will produce some glare and will not have the same quality as a D2R globe even though both will be HID lighting.

You can get away with an aftermarket HID kit in the R34 Xenon assembly, but the light output isn't the prettiest. I wonder if the light output is better on the factory halogen assembly?

Anyways, hope that clears it up for ya

Hey guys I have been trying to sort out my missing high beam bulb problem for a few weeks but everywhere i take my spare bulb(3rd pic), they just look at it very wierdly. I hope that buy just looking at these pictures somebody might tell me what i need to buy to replace the missing bulb. The casing of my lights say Xenon.

I need the bulb and the black bit connected to it (everything in 3rd pic), which then connects to the casing(1st n 2nd pic).. If anyone can help me i would appreciate it very much. im exhausted in looking around and i need to take the car over the pits and register it.

By reading this forum Im gona search my car 2moro for hid ballasts..

low beams flick on straight away and are not that bright so must be halogen?

If I buy a pair of new Hid ballasts, will that fix my problem? what ballast do i buy?

Is there a limit to how legal the power of the bulbs?.. ( taking car over pits)

Sorry about all the questions but Ive never dealt with xenon or any hid lighting before. Cheers!

To get the most out of your original HID housing, get the D2R globes (assuming that they're the factory style).

You can get those cheap HID kits with D2R on ebay, but you said 'decent', not sure if those will be.

i have no idea why i didn't think about this, but is there anything stopping us R34 owners with Xenon assembly's, but hacked due to compliance, from getting D2R kits and get an OEM light output?????

I thought i wrote this idea off for some reason, but can't remember why....
