Hi Guys, I know it is probably asked a bit but not easily found...

I was going to be putting an RB20det from my friend's car into my 180. This isn't going to happen in a hurry due to an issue with my mates replacement motor.

My question is this;

I have an R32 RB25DE lined up for $1000 (already have the box from it). Working within a close budget to what I was (1000-1500 to get it in after purchase of engine package) would I be better of going this way rather than looking for another RB20DET?

I know it is a good option if I spend some cash on the motor but I just really want it to be a step up from what it would have been with the RB20DET.

I have AN idea on what is required but it is an internet and hear-say understanding. I know that is all I will get here :nyaanyaa: but can anyone in the KNOW please confirm for me what I would need to do to get it up and going to a point that I could be safely and smoothly getting 180-200rwkw?

(GTST Injectors, GTST AFM, Manifold, R33/R34 Turbo, Turbo Lines, Dump Pipe, and ECU? - anything missing?)

I am not sure if a head gasket is required, what thickness and how much would I expect it to cost me to have fitted if required?

Another main question is would I run an RB20DET ECU? Does it plug straight in, and is it able to be tuned it to suit? (or is another ECU required)

Anything else anyone could help me with would be great so I can make my decision if to get the motor or not!

Any experence or results with this setup would be sweet!

Thanks guys!!

Todd

hey ask same question in na section its been cover lots and lots of times might get better answers, but here ya go

As for ecu yeh go the rb20det ecu should be fine and safe tune but to get 180-200 it would need to be rom chipped ie by dr drift or the likes, or get an safc, emanage or the likes,

You will also need a fuel pump, crossover pipe with bov and of course intercooler and piping, and front pipe. you shouldnt need an afm but mine blew when i did turbo conversion may have just been old cause no-one else who's done the conversion has had a problem.

Head gasket isnt required but with you will be limited with boost, on stock ecu i wouldnt go passed stock boost on a tuneable ecu it depends on the tunner but you should be safe enough to run 10psi, 12 max but i and most others wouldn't suggest over 10, boost will come on reallly early i think i get full boost at around 2000rpm on stock turbo

all the parts needed can be sourced as stock items and will run fine but to get 200 you would prob need some better than stock items ie front mount, exhaust, fuel pump ecu and mabye a fpr should get you there and it will be nice and torque esp compaired to an rb20.

Hope that helps your descision

cheers Jarrod

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
