DaShMiEsTeR
Hi there is a similar topic i found to this but it was for an RB25DET Just want to know.... what are the gains on adjustable cam gears on a RB20DET 32? Get the timing belt done as im approaching the 150, 000km mark and the 'Mechanic' advised it needs to be done. (might get a second opinion lol) so have a few kits i am looking at (with or without the adjustable cams) not sure which way to go? any help would be appreciated heaps Edited November 15, 2007 by DaShMiEsTeR Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/193794-rb20det-adjustable-cams/ Share on other sites
limpus
Peak power might only rise a couple of kilowatts if it does...adjustment of the cam gears might allow you to shift your powerband around slightly...alot of people recon its abit of a hit or miss with cam gears but it can't hurt to try... But if its a hit and miss i might give it a shot. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/193794-rb20det-adjustable-cams/#findComment-3479608 Share on other sites
r32sky_line
Probaly only minimal gains with standard cams, but still a gain. Have you thought about aftermarket cams. Roy
Probaly only minimal gains with standard cams, but still a gain.Have you thought about aftermarket cams. I think it all comes down to the experience of the tuner and whether you are willing to pay for all the dyno tiume whilst the settings are changed and the ignition anf fuelling gets tweaked so that you actually get a tangible change in power/delivery. Im still waiting to see a credible before and after comparison of an RB20 with some cams. Same tuner, same bolt on and support mods, only change is cams a tweak of the tune to suit. DaShMiEsTeR
so its completely dependent on the tuner? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/193794-rb20det-adjustable-cams/#findComment-3483352 Share on other sites

Hopefully this wednesday i will be adding Adj cam gears and getting another tune on the same dyno, same tuner and with the same mods (except for the Adj cam gears), ill keep people posted as it will be interesting to see what difference they make and at what settings on a Std cam stock internal RB20. Here is the Dyno sheet from my last tune on ~15 psi Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/193794-rb20det-adjustable-cams/#findComment-3483366 Share on other sites

grandmasterb
I will be dropping the cams in my motor so hopefully will see a bit of a difference through the midrange from the 200rwks it began with. Will post up results of before and after graphs in the RB20 thread once done Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/193794-rb20det-adjustable-cams/#findComment-3485585 Share on other sites

WazR32GTSt
you probably won[t gain any top end but it will bring boost on sooner and shift your power curve left this means power is available earlier across the whole rev range ...very worth it on the rb20 which we all know lacks balls below 3000rpm haven changed cam gears on my rb20 with rb25 turbo (i made a thread about it - do a search), i say go for it! Going slightly larger than 256 though and looking for the increase through midrange and to help bring on boost earlier Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/193794-rb20det-adjustable-cams/#findComment-3485999 Share on other sites

Douse
About the timing belt....i thought it was meant to be done at 100,000kms as well........ I would be doing it fairly quickly if you are reaching 150,000kms. As well as you idlers and tensioners....
